Eastern And Western Medicine

The study of medicine is all about improving the health, well-being and longevity of people. In order to achieve advances in medicine, there needs to be a clear understanding of the body. Scientists continue to learn how the body works, how different parts of the body are connected and how certain parts respond or compensate when an area is weak.

From dissection to x-rays, human trials to DNA testing, there have been many advances in technology and science that have helped us to build a greater understanding of our anatomy and physiology. New medicines are available every year, yet there are always new challenges to be tackled, particularly as the population lives longer and we build resilience to certain drugs.

Eastern Medicine

Eastern medicine has a holistic approach to improving health. It focuses on maintaining and restoring the natural balance and flow of energy in the body. They understand that Chi, the life force, flows through inter-connecting channels in our bodies. If the flow gets blocked it affects our health and can be the cause of disease.

Rather than curing a particular symptom, Eastern medicines look at improving whole body balance. Treatment may include exercises, such as yoga or Tai Chi, which encourage a natural flow of energy around the body. This could be combined with taking herbal remedies and a course of acupuncture, reiki or massage which can restore the flow of Chi.

Magnetic therapy has also been used to prevent restricted energy flow around the body. The magnetic force draws the energy through the body to prevent blockages. Many people have found that simply wearing magnetic bracelets has helped to reduce pain, promote sleep and improve their health. Eastern medicine may also address external factors, such as the seasons, temperature and community, which can impact on an individual’s health.

Eastern medical practices may seem alien to people who have been brought up in the West, and many haven’t been medically approved, but these holistic principles have been effectively used for centuries.

Western Medicine

Western medicine has far greater focus on anatomy. It applies targeted treatments to specific areas of the body which are affected by pain or disease. Rather than focusing on unseen elements such as energy flow, it is concerned with muscles, bones, organs and other parts of the body. In understanding the human anatomy, western medicine can isolate a specific area for treatment.

This treatment is often a course of pharmaceutical drugs and where necessary surgery to repair or remove and replace damaged or diseased parts. Following surgery, patients may be encouraged to follow a programme of exercises to rebuild muscle strength.

Western medical practices are alien to people brought up in the East, who may feel it encourages a reliance on drugs, but they have helped many people to survive serious illness and injury.

Combining the Two

There is a growing awareness of the different approaches to medicine and a great acceptance on the benefits of either approach. Every individual will respond differently to any treatment, so what has worked for one may not be as effective for another. Increasing numbers of people, both medical practitioners and patients, are combining elements of each to provide a more personalised treatment plan. Visit the Magnetic Bracelets website.
