Learn How To Manage Arthritis

The word arthritis may not sound familiar to many people. Doctors tell their patients that they have arthritis presuming the they know what the diagnosis means. Here is a simple explanation of the condition:

A joint inflammation normally accompanied by pain, swelling and rigidness. Mainly it attacks joint linings, damages and deforms them along with tendons and ligaments.

The causes of the inflammation are things like trauma, metabolic disturbances and infections. Our cartilages also disintegrates due to age, injury, genetic factors and obesity. Usually it affects hands, thighs spine, knees and occurs in various forms such as:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Bacterial arthritis
  • Psoriasis arthritis
  • Septic arthritis

It is not a life threatening condition especially when early diagnosis and proper treatment to avoid the damage it would cause is well handled. It can strike at any age and the basic steps on how to deal with the situation starts on knowing which type of arthritis you have. The signs and symptoms may develop suddenly or gradually. Once you know the kind of the inflammation you have, your physician would know the interventions to take. They may include and not limited to:

  1. Use of anti-inflammatory products as instructed by a doctor because of their side effects.
  2. Exercise regularly. Engage in physical activities to make your body flexible and thus strengthening the muscles. Yoga, swimming, walking and cycling are some of the things one can consider trying.
  3. Feed on a balanced and healthy diet. Eat foods with omega-3 fatty acids which are known to reduce inflammation. Fruits and vegetables are also suitable.
  4. Undergo surgery. When other treatments fail, then consider being operated. This is if your condition keeps on deteriorating
  5. Taking full control of yourself is crucial. When one is able to take control of their mind, they will find it easier to regulate the pain. Response to treatment will be faster.
  6. Women should avoid wearing shoes with high heels. This hastens arthritis because they increase twisting and staining the knees and other parts of the body.
  7. Try the heat and cold therapies. The treatment greatly lessens pain and stiffness of the affected areas.
  8. Massaging helps us archive required relaxation to the arching part reducing inflammation naturally.
  9. Get enough sleep. This helps to decrease fatigue and enable the immune system to strengthen.
  10. Learn how to practice relaxation on daily basis to get a sense of body control. It eases hurting since pain is not an easy task to manage.
  11. Lead a healthy lifestyle and this includes maintaining normal weight and shunning excess stress .
