Regular Exercise Can Help Reduce The Pain Associated With Arthritis

Unfortunately we are still a long way off finding an outright cure for arthritis, which is a real shame because this condition can make your life a misery and affects millions of people all over the world. So at this moment in time, the only real option is to try and manage the pain, and try to reduce the symptoms as much as possible.

With that in mind, the good news is that recent research carried out by a group of American scientists found that doing some kind of regular exercise just once a week can go a long way to easing much of the pain associated with arthritis.

This condition can be quite debilitating because it wears you down when you are in constant pain, and it also prevents you doing a lot of everyday activities that you might otherwise have done if you were perfectly healthy. It also prevents you from doing many forms of exercise because the joint pain is too severe.

This new research, however, suggests that doing exercise such as dancing, yoga or pilates just once a week could be beneficial.

The results of this study found that out of the 200 people that took part, more than half of them (53%) reported reduced levels of pain after doing some form of supervised exercise once a week. Furthermore a similar number of people (54%) reported an improved quality of life after doing this exercise.

Examples of some of the activities that were done by these arthritis sufferers included dancing, pilates and yoga, all of which are quite fun to do, particularly dancing.

This certainly sounds logical when you think about it because many doctors advise arthritis sufferers to try and do some exercise if they possibly can. This is because it is thought that leading a sedentary lifestyle often makes the pain even worse.

It is not that hard to do either because dancing, pilates and yoga classes are very common these days, even those which cater for the slightly older generation, who are most likely to be inflicted with arthritis.

There is also the fact that doing more exercise will generally improve your overall health and wellbeing anyway, whether you have arthritis or not.

So the point is that if you do happen to suffer from severe joint pain, then doing some kind of exercise, even if you only get the chance to do this once a week, may well ease some of the most severe symptoms.

If you are daunted by the prospect of joining one of these groups on your own, it might be a good idea to ask one of your friends to go along with you, particularly if they too suffer from this condition. That way you will both to be able to benefit, and it will be a lot more fun.
