I follow fellow authors on Street Articles, following a diverse cross-section of subjects, you see I love to read. But lately I have followed suggested reading expounding the ways of increasing readership, Google exposure, and search rankings. At my age I'm easily confused by all the differing suggestions, SEO, H1 tags, outbound links, back links, creating discussion, gathering feed back and many other items of advice.
I started to write to improve my grammar, spelling and to hopefully generate a following that would read my articles on a specific subject. The grammar and spelling now vastly improved, the subjects covered, diverse and wide, even to the attempt at humour. The resulting reads have shown a preference to articles not expected to attract attention. What to do now? Create a blog site that concentrates on my expert field, in fact two sites, one specialist site and one generalised site.
This has created more writing and thought than I ever set out to create. More work, that somehow is so much more fun than a month ago, before I started writing articles. I have now managed to link all the sites with each other, a task I can assure you, not easy for an old f..t like me, semi illiterate in computer usage. My peers, within Street Articles, give phenomenal advice on the use of “key words”, linking within the article, back linking to your own articles and many more diverse attractive advice on making money on the internet.
I am no expert on the computer or of URLs, http:, and so on, give me a garden, a plant or something similar and I can expound the problems you have or might have in the future. Want to know the size of a property, lay out a garden, survey a Golf Course? Here i can help. Yet why do I continue to read and attempt to understand all the writings of the experts? Because it is new knowledge, new to an old brain, a challenge “to get it right.”
I am busy with a company that is encoding a program I developed, this when finished, for sale to those that can use it. However, I beg for aid from them, in understanding the writings of the experts, and although it requires repetitive instruction, it is still difficult to absorb all the detail. Why is it so easy for some and totally confusing for others? There is nothing worst than asking for aid from those that know how. They approach the computer, the fingers fly across the key board, windows open all over the place and the “there you are, that's how it's executed,” is no help at all, to the likes of me, too proud to admit “I never understood, or followed a step you executed.”
Do not stop the articles assisting the likes of me, (I am sure I'm not alone) I will in the end understand what you are articulating.
I feel your pain Rob, trying to catch up with these kids born with computers in their pockets is challenging...yet often enough in their blinding speed they run smack into a tree..slow and steady keeps the bruises to a minimum..good style you have and quite funny.
