Internet Marketing, the Basics Of How to Get Rich – Something I Wonder About

It's surprising how a comment on face book can destroy ones hopes of becoming rich as an Internet Marketer. A Google search will give you millions of suggestions of “How to get rich on the Internet” or “Can I get rich on the internet” yet one comment on face book will tell you “95% of people fail online.” Is this what you were expecting?

I certainly was, it is just as difficult to succeed on the Internet as it is on the open street market. The writer expands his comment by telling one that it is as a result of ones approach, if you're expecting to become rich in one month, you're not going to make it. The competition on the Internet is so vast and it is actually such a cheap business to begin, that most be doomed to fail.

The capital outlay required to open a business in the physical world of competition, requires careful analysis and planning so as not to lose it all in the first month. Any business of this sort will in any case take almost a year to begin to turn a profit. Initial capital out-lay often difficult to recover within a few years. The constant need to keep abreast of market trends, good old hard work, advertising and being of a friendly disposition, all requirements to make sure you stay in business. Watching the income books, making sure accounts never exceed the cash transactions, sales tax collections paid over on time, expenditure not exceeding budget, and all the other concerns of running a business, daily concerns of business owners.

Is this any different in the cyber world? I think not, the initial capital outlay different, in fact there are sites that say you can begin to earn without a single cent expenditure. Should one believe this? Well if you do, then why are we all not millionaires? There's more to this than I know, and so the title of this article, “Internet Marketing, the basics of getting rich – something I don't know” has me flummoxed. Why should this be any different from normal business? It's not as far as I'm concerned. There is no get rich quick formula, and all those that try to tell you differently are scamming the very pants off you.

A sure-fire way of becoming rich over night, is to win the lottery, but your chances so small you might as well try the Internet Marketing. If the expounder of the statement on Face Book is right, that only five percent are going to make a living off the Internet, then you need be someone special, with 2 300 000 000 users reputed to use the Internet world-wide, you are appealing to a vast market of different minded people. Your market research, capital expenditure and appeal will need be of the best, to capture a mere 0.0001 percent of the users.

Your work ethics and back up plans better be good, or sure, your doomed to failure. Hard work, perseverance, flexibility and patience all necessary requirements for success, and guess what, it is no different from opening a shop or store. The only difference is the staff needed and the place of work.

I agree with you here Rob. And I think another thing that makes it difficult is that the 5% is dominating the market, giving no chance for the newbies - It's easy to be greedy. But having the right training, hard work, dedication, and learning how to compete with the giants are the best tools of the newbie.

That is correct in all lines of business, I think with the Internet due to less financial out lay by most, it is easier to throw in the towel and give up. I also think that those that soldier on with gusto will make it. It is not easy work as you know but it is achievable if one continues on.

That was great article Rob.I am trying at the moment to built site of my own in order to enter the internet marketing and I must admit that it takes much time and dedication to do that. Maybe more than a normal job. Is it going to work? No idea! The most important thing is to become a trustworthy source. But still...how much time will it be until something pays off? And yes, you put money in it, maybe not as much as for a normal store but you do! Let's see what happens!

I agree Rob. I've had my own electrical contracting business (small scale)for many years and it has required hard work and dedication. I'm trying to apply the same values to internet marketing. I don't expect to see much of a return for a year or more however there has been a trickle of income to date.

Thanks Rob...Most of the people I talk to want to make money right away, but internet marketing is hard work...And if my figures are right 98% quit before earning a penny.

The figure of 95% was cited from Kyle, for all I know 98% could be right, all I do know is that too many think its easy, and starting any business is not.

I think maybe more options on Internet, but true about the work, there are no free rides in life everything takes work. Great article Rob

Thanks joe, the very point I was making, it is easier to open a business on Internet due to the capital involved, but is no guarantee of success, from there on its the same hard work and dedication.

Good article, and very thought provoking. I would say it all depends on ones direction. If you hang with dishwashers you will wash dishes so to speak. Like Chris said, the market is out there, you just need to tap it and become a trusted source.

Still like all markets it won't happen over night and is going to take a lot of work.

All too true, Rob. Particularly in retail sales. However, the creative arts professionals really do have a magic carpet for their efforts--sites like cdbaby or bookbaby allow one to self-publish their music CDs and/or books--and a good one will need little promotion--and this situation removes enormous obstacles that stood in the way of the pre-digital artists: agents, publishers, record companies, even editors (sometimes unfortunately). So your thesis applies mostly to retail sales and marketing--which are in some ways made even more difficult online due to the ease with which someone else can take your 'most brilliant idea in the world' and make it a tawdry, commonplace thing overnight. So, while it's true that no business is a cakewalk, there are undeniable savings made by today's start-ups: postage made up a significant portions of outlay for pre-digital businesses, particularly publications and newsletters (and newsletters today need nothing but a good reputation and frequent insights into a given industry). And, of course, mass marketing, with its 'old days' copy, layout, mailing-list rental, printing and postage costs can, if you're talented, be kept reduced to very near zero when releasing a modern online campaign (particularly if you already have your own email prospects lists). But, in general, I think you said it all--doing business from a computer is vastly different, but not necessarily easier.

Thanks Chris, I agree with what you say, it still remains no "get rich overnight" situation, business wise. The music industry has always been one where one can go overnight from gutter to limo. The retail a different story, and I think the reality is there for all to see, its gonna take hard work and dedication to make a modicum of success.

Good Rob, I too have some reservations about the reality of certain success claims re I.M. but as long as one enjoys doing it, why not?
