Why Meditate?

Meditation and the joy it can bring

Being a great supporter of the daily practice of meditation, I am frequently asked this question … why meditate what benefits are there for me? Glad you asked, let me share with you the transformation you can expect when you set aside just 15 minutes a day to embrace this exercise of the mind.

Firstly the physical benefits which can be achieved from this simple exercise for your emotions include

No. 1 –Reduction in stress levels, there is much medical evidence to support this claim.

It also assists in building confidence, increased focus and concentration, aids in the increased acceptance of self! Then there are the other benefits, such as

· Increase in your creativity

· Deep sense of Relaxation

· Memory enhancement

· Teaches breathing on a deeper level

It also has been found to lower stress hormones, blood pressure, has a positive affect on the aging process, plus many other physiological benefits

When you practice regular meditation it seems like ‘you don’t sweat the small stuff’ anymore! You’re more likely to deal with life’s surprise more easily and you are probably more inclined to go with the flow. If something pops into your life that is unexpected, for those individuals who practice meditation they would probably go and sit somewhere and breath – rather than get anxious and angry, avoiding the need to react first.

When a problem (I would prefer to call it a situation) occurs in my life, I do exactly this, I find a tree to sit beneath and breathe. I repeat the words … all is calm, all is calm, all is calm and just breathe for 5 minutes. I do my best not to let this situation infiltrate my thoughts and if it does, I go back to my mantra of ‘all is calm’.

The purpose of this exercise is to provide a distraction for a few minutes so that you can allow a solution to be formed. When we are immersed in the details of problems the vibrational energy attached to this problem is vastly different from that of a solution. The vibrational energy of the lower emotions, such as frustration, disappointment, sadness is denser than those of hopefulness, faith, trust. Once we’re feeling calm you’ll be amazed what thoughts arrive and it’s generally something which is positive and can help.

Meditation is such a huge topic and there any many, many different areas to explore. This article is primarily to spark your curiosity and over the next few weeks I’ll share more about the wonders of meditation and how you can experience profound changes in your stress levels by practising as little as 15 minutes day.

Feel free to leave any questions you have, I’ll be happy to answer or even write an article on your question.
