It’s all well and good to grab your favorite RC car, either fill the gas tank with nitro or shove your batteries in and go drive it, but the truth is how is it all generally holding up? So you love to drive but sometimes you’re a bit slack when it comes to maintaining your favorite ride? Read on because you're going to learn all about maintaining your RC car.
Looking Deeper
One of the problems in this hobby/sport of RC cars is they need to be looked after so in turn they can look after you. How is that so, you might ask? Whether you drive for fun or love to compete, sometimes our cars can lack on performance or be affected by handling issues due to the way we drive them. You might drive an off-road buggy or an on-road F1 RC car, it’s amazing how a small knock or a big crash can affect your vehicle.
Sometimes a small knock might go unnoticed unlike a major crash where you can’t help BUT notice the damage that you have just incurred! Looking deeper you might notice a nut or screw that’s missing, how about a cracked chassis or some other obvious broken part? Time to do some wrenching and time to place and repair your car!
More Than A Superficial Clean Up
Cleaning or wiping your car down after a run is a good thing to get in the habit of doing, but now and again it’s really important to take your car apart for a thorough clean. Sometimes you end up doing it along the way maybe because of that part that needed replacing and it’s a good opportunity or because you want to do a general clean up anyway. Along with a good clean it's a good time to degrease (solvents) and re-lube (fine bearing oil) with your wheel bearings (all good cars have ball bearings). Internal parts also run bearings like in a transmission and other parts like steering linkages etc, so if you can it’s wise to tackle that as well. Dirt and fine grit can crawl its way and eventually take its toll on your RC car parts so be mindful of that.
Back On The Road Again
Its good practice looking after your car, learning to take it apart and to put it back together again. Its even better when you have discovered and resolved little things that have made your vehicle handle like you knew it once did. So now you have a clean looking model radio control car that's making you feel pretty cool and now your back on the road again!
