With Sebastian Vettel winning 8 of the last 13 races, it's no surprise that Felipe Massa is starting to think twice on his team's chances in the 2011 Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Vettel showed another strong performance in the recently concluded Italian Grand Prix and have further extended his points advantage over his competitors. The victory at Monza gave Vettel an advantage of 112 points ahead of his closest rival Fernando Alonso. And if he continues this strong showing in the upcoming Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix, this could be sufficient to wrap up the championship.
As early as now, Massa has conceded the title and believe its time to congratulate Vettel...even if some of Vettel's rivals are not keen to do so yet.
As far as Massa is concerned, with the way Vettel is performing now, the only way that the German will lose the Formula One title is if he (Vettel) stays home and doesn't compete for the remainder of the season. But as long as Vettel is competing, Massa doesn't see anyone capable of taking the inevitable from the young German driver.
Vettel was at his best as he mastered Monza and deftly outmaneuvered Fernando Alonso in the race, a move which showed most of his critics that he can win, not only coming from the front. Some of his rivals were not as masterful as the German but this made the 53-lap race more exciting.
His teammate, Mark Webber, was not as lucky as he was. Webber tore the front wing off his car as he and Massa collided in Turn One while battling for 5th position during the fifth lap. And even though Webber tried to go to the pits, his front wing folded under the car when he braked which eventually led to his crashing out. This resulted in Webber dropping to 3rd spot in the drivers' championship of the 2011 Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Discussing about the incident with Webber, Massa said that Webber had pushed him out while they were battling it out on the fifth lap, which resulted in him losing control of his car. He blames Webber for putting him out of the race and affecting his race performance.
He thought that it would have been highly possible for him to land in the top four position had this incident with Webber not happened.
With the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix coming up in less than 2 weeks, everyone's eager to see if Vettel will continue with his strong performance and get his 2nd championship trophy this year.
