Commercial Drivers\' Income In New York

Truck driving has become a popular career choice in the past couple of years, and if you are one of those people who want to be professional truck drivers, you must be aware of all the challenges and difficulties you will have to face while working. But, before you can start driving a commercial vehicle, you have to obtain a commercial driver's license, for which you must pass a CDL exam. But, trucking jobs are paid pretty well, which is a good motivation for everyone to try their best to overcome every potential obstacles and challenges that are a part of this line of work.

While truck drivers in all U.S. states are paid pretty well, New York truckers are paid even better. In 2012, the average truck driver salary in the U.S. was $37,930, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is $4,000 more than the average salary for all other jobs. New York is a state that has more truck drivers than most other states. It's obvious that they are attracted by the good salaries. According to Indeed, the average salary for a truck driver in New York as of July 2013 is $42,000. This is 28% than the national average truck driver salary. A New York truck driver can earn as much as $63,000 a year, which is the highest salary recorded so far.

This is good news for every New Yorker who wants to become a truck driver. Apart from the good salary, the fact that there are plenty of trucking jobs available today, should make a lot of people seriously consider getting into the truck driving business. With the economy showing signs of recovery, the truck driving industry is one of the industries that have the most job openings, along with construction and information technology. Also, considering that driving a truck is a pretty demanding job, a lot of trucking companies can't find good drivers to fill their job openings, which means you'll have no trouble finding a job if you are qualified for it and have the skills that are necessary for driving a commercial motor vehicle. To prepare for the CDL exam, you can attend a driver's ed course, which is not mandatory in the state of New York, but it's highly recommended.

If you compare truck driving with other commercial driver jobs, you'll see that truck drivers are better paid than school bus drivers or ambulance drivers. When it comes to which truck drivers get the highest salary, it's those who drive tractor trailers.
