If you're looking to do a style upgrade to your car, installing euro tail lights (also called altezza style) is a great choice. There are lots of different manufacturers to choose from, and they can range greatly in prices depending on the vehicle. If you want to make a big impact on the look of your car, changing out the tail lights is the way to go. Let's take a look at the phenomenon known as euro tail lights.
Normal tail lamp assemblies are sealed units that have red, white, and amber lenses for the stop, backup, and turn signal lamps. Some vehicles do not have the amber lens but just use the red lens for the turn signal. Euro tail lamps are different in that the outside lens is clear. The lenses have different colored reflectors inside which color the lights. It's almost like turning the regular lens inside out, if you will. Some vehicles that this upgrade is popular on include Honda Civics, Acura Integras, and Volkswagen Golfs. It is usually import vehicles that tend to have the euro style tail lights, but they do make them for domestic cars as well, such as a Chevy Silverado.
Changing out the entire tail lamp assembly is usually not such a hard job. You should be able to use basic hand tools such as a screwdriver. Some lamp assemblies use star bit sockets to hold them in place, so you may need a screwdriver to match. Find all the screws where the assembly bolts to the vehicle, and you should be able to remove the assembly. Sometimes they are mounted to the trunk lid as well. The new assemblies may come with brand new bulbs, but most of them require you to use your existing ones. Make sure to check all your bulbs and sockets to ensure everything is working correctly - you don't want to have to undo the assembly once you get it on just to change a bulb!
Make sure when you seek out euro tail lamp manufacturers that they are adhering to original equipment manufacturer specifications, or OEM specs. Nothing would be worse than spending money on a new set of tail lamps, and then getting them home only to find out they are slightly too big or too small and won't fit. Making sure that your lamp manufacturer is familiar with the OEM specs of the car will ensure a great fit.
There's no doubt that changing your original tail lights to euro tail lights will get you noticed. Just make sure that such a change is also legal in your state. Every state has different standards as to what aftermarket equipment is okay to put on a vehicle. Have fun playing with your car's style!
