If you're considering an Austrian holiday and would like to know more about Salzburg airport transportation and the city itself, you may find the following FAQs to be particularly useful.

Does the city have its own airport?

Yes it does and access into the very city centre itself is through a number of fast and reasonably priced Salzburg airport transportation services.

What is there that connects it to Mozart?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in the city and went on to become, though not in his own lifetime, one of the most universally acclaimed composers in history. His birthplace is open as a museum, as is the Mozart’s later family home. The latter was very heavily damaged during World War II by allied bombing but it has been immaculately restored to its condition at the time the family would have been in residence.

What are prices like, in general, in the city?

It is true that Germany and Austria have a reputation for being amongst some of the more expensive European holiday destinations. However, broadly speaking, the prices of in terms of infrastructure and transport activities, such as the above-mentioned Salzburg airport transportation and entry to museums and galleries, are all typically reasonably priced. Eating out costs may be slightly higher than you are you used to at home, although that can be mitigated if you select restaurants that are off the main tourist centre streets.

How cold would it get during winter holidays?

Very! The city is at the foot of mountains and not too far away from skiing centres. As you would expect given that, snow and extremely low temperatures during the winter months are to be anticipated – so bring appropriate clothing. The good news, though, is that this is often combined with sunshine, so a winter break can be refreshing and invigorating.

Is it an old city with lots of history?

Yes, this was originally a Roman city and was extensively developed during the earlier Middle Ages. It is one of Europe’s great architectural gems and there are a staggering number of beautiful buildings to see. These cover a range of periods from the medieval through the Baroque and into what in English would be called the Georgian and Victorian periods. The ancient winding streets are an absolute delight and fantastic to explore or have a quiet coffee as you watch the world go by.

Can I get cheap flights?

At the time of writing, several low-cost airlines service the city. You can get some great deals, although as with all budget airline destinations, the situation is subject to fairly regular change.

Are taxis available at the airport?

Yes, they certainly are but you may be able to get a rather more cost-effective deal if you look at Salzburg airport transportation offers and book them in advance. It might certainly be a better idea than relying on a taxi if you are travelling with bulky luggage.
