The Dangers Of Using Baby Cleansers
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

A baby's skin is very different to that of an adult. It is considerably less oily and much more delicate, you therefore need to be very cautious when using any type of baby cleansing products on such sensitive skin.

Do not use products which have not be specifically designed for babies as they may contain harsh ingredients which can irritate the skin. Baby cleansing products are milder in nature and aim to reduce likelihood of rashes or allergies. Should your infant develop any sensitivity to a product such as a rash, redness, dry skin or Eczema you will need to assess the product to see which ingredient may be causing the problem.

Newborn babies do still have your hormones in their systems and so don't be alarmed if your babies skin shows signs of dryness and peeling, this is normal. The skin may peel around the wrists, knees and feet but after a few weeks this usually disappears leaving soft beautiful skin.

Be aware that other products you are using on your baby may create problems. Some baby wipes are perfumed which are not suitable for very new delicate skin. Also Washing detergents and softeners can be the culprit if you find your child has irritated skin or indeed the particular material your babies clothes are made from could be causing problems.

When changing diapers cleanliness is vital. Do not leave your child for a prolonged time in a wet or soiled diaper, change them frequently. Ensure that you thoroughly clean your child, especially in creases which are easily overlooked. Dry well and treat any signs of diaper rash. Infants benefit from time without their diaper on allowing air to the skin.

You may discover that your child's skin is highly sensitive and you may need to look carefully at all aspects of your routine and products. Some parents find disposable diapers are preferable as the washing detergent on re-useable nappies can lead to skin irritation.

Skin irritation and sensitivity is very common in children and you will find many products designed to treat them on the market. Both organic and non organic baby skin cleaners will state if they are age appropriate for your infant.

Your babies bedding needs to be dry and therefore you should air and check it regularly. Damp bedding is a breeding ground for Bacteria and mould which can result in breathing problems and rashes. Mattress protectors designed for cribs are very useful in aiding dry beds.

A child's skin and breathing are also affected by their environment. Ensure your child's room is dust free clean and dry without any draughts.Remember no two children are alike. A cream you have happily used on an older sibling could be causing problems for your baby. If this is the case change your baby's product and if your child continues to suffer any skin irritation may sure they see a doctor to rule out any other potential cause.
