When it comes to travelling with babies the key element is to be prepared. Babies do not easily travel light and so you will need to consider many factors before leaving home. the decisions you make will be greatly influenced by patterns and routines already established. For example; whether your baby uses disposable diapers or if you are bottle or breast feeding.
Well before your travel date you should make a list of equipment and products you use on a daily basis for your baby. The next step is to try to reduce this to a "needs only" one, which things do you need and which can you do without or buy at your destination.
If you are breastfeeding then the major advantage is you do not have to transport bottles, sterilising equipment etc. Another consideration if you are bottle feeding is the safe mixing of formula, lots of bottled mineral water contains salt levels too high for the under ones.
The convenience of breast feeding when travelling should not be under estimated, if you are an expectant mother who plans to travel a lot then consider the advantages of breast feeding carefully. If you are bottle feeding you may need to check before you book that there are adequate facilities for preparing and warming formula and of course sterilising hygienically.
Another convenience when traveling with babies is disposable diapers, however some destinations may have limited choices or shopping facilities so you may have to take sufficient supplies with you.
If your child is on solid food you may need to check the options available if you plan to buy jars of prepared food. Some countries allow sugar to be added to baby food, even the savoury meals!
It may be necessary to take a travel crib with you depending on facilities, if so take enough bedding with you. Although lots of parents choose to wait until the child is older before traveling, this is unnecessary as long as you are well prepared.
Make sure you pack plastic bags for any dirty items, barrier creams, wipes and cloths you may need. If your child is old enough take suitable Sunscreen and hats. If you are traveling to hot Countries be vigilant as babies skin is very sensitive.
Lightweight strollers are useful for daytime naps, baby carriers are also great as they are light to pack and convenient.
Remember to take infant painkiller and any medication your child may require for the duration of the trip.baby toys
