Baby And Toddler Toys

Every baby likes to play. In early ages they play with their feet, with their fingers. They play by pulling your hair or “stealing” your glasses. That play is also called exploring. Babies are very curious, they want to touch and taste everything in order to find out what that thing is. Babies don’t pay attention if the thing they are putting in mouth is safe enough for them. They don’t care about that, but we, as responsible adults, have to take care and protect our child from hazardous things.

Choosing the right toy for your baby can be difficult. You need to focus yourself on appropriate toy for your baby depending on age, purpose and safety issues.

Toy by age

I’m not really sure how much are infants (first couple of months) interested in toys, but what I know is that they go by sound and what they see. So in my opinion toys suitable for them would be soft, with lights and sound that will calm them down.

As babies grow older they start to go by touch along with sound and lights. Knowing that, you are going for toy that is still soft but has some accessories included. Like activity gym for example. That is not just a toy that is also something that will push your child to explore.

As baby explore baby need to touch, so other toys should have something to push or something to press that will make noise. You want to keep your child interested as well as you want them to learn.

Educational toys

When we talk educational toys we talk about toys with purpose to motivate your child to learn, a toy that will actuate the mental and physical growth. Some of the toys with that purpose are form fitters, talking and singing toys, ball poppers…

Toy safety

All of these toys have a good purpose and they are very appealing and interesting, but are they safe? This is the question that buyers ask a lot. They want to know if colors are tested for safety. What about plastic toys and their sharp edges (as they see it)? Aren’t those wooden toys to hard for children of that age?

I worked in a toy store and I have to admit that some of the concerns were reasonable and some were not.

The customers were worried about toxic colors in toys. This is kind of a reasonable concern as a result of some of products that were made in China and really were toxic, but those toys are withdrawn from the stores or didn’t even reach the stores. So the toys that are on the shelves are there because they have been approved and tested for child safetiness . That also goes for the sharp edges and wooden baby toys.

Sometimes it would get mad on some people because they thought of their children as an (sorry for the expression) idiots. They told me that toys I had in store were to complicated for the kids at the age from 0-3 like putting right shape into right hole, or matching the sound with animal…

You have to understand that children nowadays are very progressive and they learn really fast. And all those toys are piece of cake for them. It is most common to see that people are buying puzzles with many pieces for children that are 3 years old and with little help they can easily put these puzzles together.
