Right now as you are checking your computer or cell phone are you aware of your posture?
There are definite steps that you can take to ensure correct posture and therefore healthy blood circulation in your arms, hands, legs and feet and improve your metabolism.
Signs of Poor CirculationSome of the signs of a lack of circulation in the arms and hands are carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, other joint pain, cold hands. While problems associated with lack of circulation in the thighs, legs and feet are varicose veins, restless leg syndrome, type 2 diabetes, slow healing and cold feet.
Self CareSimply massage the area between your collar bone and your first rib on both sides of your body for better circulation in your arms and hands, as the major blood vessels that travel to and from your arms and hands travel through this space. Massaging this area will improve blood circulation in your upper extremities especially after sitting at a computer for long periods of time. Shoulder rolls are helpful too as well as getting up for a quick stretch every 15-20 min.
Proper PostureYou should maintain good posture to keep this area open and less tight. Slouching forward diminishes this space by rotating your shoulder blades and causing your collar bones to move closer to your first ribs.
Just being aware of your posture throughout the day is one of the best ways that you can promote good posture and good blood circulation to your arms and hands.
When you are sitting at a desk with a computer, keep your ears lined up with your shoulders at all times for proper posture. Maybe put a sticky where you can see it, to check your posture when you notice the sticky.
More OxygenWhen your heart pumps, oxygen and nutrients in your blood travels to your upper and lower extremities through your arteries.
Have you noticed that fingernails grow more quickly than toenails? That is because your hands are closer to your heart than your feet, therefore better blood circulation goes to your arms and hands rather than your legs and feet.
Faster RepairBetter circulation means quicker growth and repair of damaged cells.
Your body needs a good supply of oxygen and nutrients coming from your blood regularly and consistently.
Your body also needs waste products removed through its lymph system; your circulation takes care of both.
Food and LifestyleSince your legs and feet do not have the same blood circulation as your upper region, it often needs a little help.
It is up to you to provide this help through your food and lifestyle choices. I highly recommend the mini-trampouline or rebounder, see my mini-trampouline page here.
