Almost 80% of the total population experience lower back pain at some point of time. You may experience stiffness which will make performance of normal activities really difficult. In some cases, the pain is chronic and debilitating which will confine you to bed for days. There are various ways to treat lower back pain depending on what’s causing it or how long it has been affecting you.

•Mundane activities like lifting a child off the floor or carrying a heavy bag can also predispose you to back problems especially if you don’t follow proper posture.

Considerations When You Treat Lower Back Pain

• Always stay active when you have recently developed back pain and take over-the-counter analgesics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain as needed. Avoid bed rest as it can make the pain worse leading to problems with range of motion and muscle weakness.

• Understand your condition well by asking your doctor if you have questions about your symptoms, how to treat lower back pain or any activities you are or are not allowed doing.

• More intensive options to treat lower back pain should be considered if the pain has been around for more than 3 months.

• Improvement without surgery is possible even when you have herniated disc or nerve damage with proper treatment and care.
