Living With Severe Back Pain And Knowing What Can Help

When back pain is experienced it can be hard to do any of the things that you normally do. Any movement can be difficult and when there is severe back pain it is even worse. The feelings can vary and can vary between stiffness and difficulty moving, general tenderness and can be spread out over a large area or can be centred on a fairly small area.

It happens for a variety of reasons so it is not always possible to know what is going to cause it. There can be a slow onset as a result of a manual job or a lifetime of not sitting correctly or if you suddenly move or move in an unusual way it can suddenly happen.

The third and most alarming way of ending up with severe back pain is that it just appears. There is no real knowledge regarding how it has happened but you could just get out of bed one day and realise that you have a problem. There is some good news here as it may ease off if you are lying down although it often happens that sudden movement – and this could be as small a movement as a cough – will make it much more painful.

As we age it is common to develop osteoporosis and this is going to lead to severe back pain. There are tips that you can follow throughout your life that may minimise the risk, but as it is caused by hormones no longer being produced that side is harder to deal with.

There will be the need to get medical help if it is severe back pain as this is not the sort of pain that will go away without help. It is normally accepted that three days is about an acceptable time to wait before medical help is sort and with severe back pain it is likely that it will last longer. If the back pain happens on a regular basis it also needs to be reported even if it does not last for more than three days but can be classes as severe on most occasions.

There are certain signs to look out for which will help you to know how serious the problem is and if you do suffer from any of these, don’t wait to seek help. One clear one is if the pain carries on if you rest and lie down and also if it spreads a little further.

The good news is that it is possible to deal with severe back pain. It can be something as simple as taking medication or carrying out gentle exercises but can be as drastic as undergoing surgery. If you are unsure about surgery and don’t like the idea of long term medication then it will be a good idea to try manual therapy. This can cover areas such as massage and manipulation and the idea behind this is to bring back mobility. This can be carried out by chiropractors and have been known to bring relief too many who suffer from severe back pain.
