Lower Back Muscle Pain  -  5 Ways to

Do you suffer from lower back muscle pain? Does lower back pain at night cause you sleepless nights? If you are, I have some good news for you! I have some ways of fighting back (No pun intended) against the pain.

There are a number of ways to manage your back pain. Myself, having suffered from years of back pain tried almost everything... except surgery. I wasn't sure if managing my pain without surgery was possible. Surgery would definatly be my last and final option. I'll be honest, at times the pain was so unbearable that I breifly considereed having surgery....I'm glad I decided against it.

The GOOD NEWS is that there are exersices, procedures and behaviors that can help you in dealing with your back pain. I'm going to give you 2 simple ways that can make a difference in your life.

1. Proper posture- That may not sound like much, but improper posture causes more than half of back problems through out the world. When you think about it, most people sit more hours a day than they stand. Now imagine sitting for 8 hours at work. You get in the car, bus or train and you sit again. When you get home your tired from a hard days work and what do you do... you sit again, exactly. Now multiply that by 365 days, because even when your off from work, you still sit down through out the day.

Proper posture while sitting in a chair is easy to do, but you have to try and remember to sit properly whenever you sit down. To do this correctly you simply sit with your shoulders to the back of the chair (if it's a high back chair) or sit as far back as you can in a low back chair. If possible, put both feet flat on the ground. That takes away some of the strain off your lower back. Then, arch the middle of your back slightly until your upper body feels like it's in a straight up and down position ( Your lower back should be slightly curved).

Or, here's a little trick I learned, roll up a small towel and place it behind you where your lower back curves. This will also support your back while sitting when your driving or sitting at work. Your spine is naturally curved so when you sit with improper posture you put stain on your lower back muscles. Practice this on a daily basis and you should see a difference. You are relieving stress off the disc in your lower back.

2. The Proper mattress- Again that may not sound like much. But after you finish with all the hours of sitting during the day, what do you do next... go to bed, right! So after sitting all day with a sore back due to uncomfortable chairs, now you go to bed in a uncomfortable bed. (Talk about going from the frying pan and into the fire). Scientificly, there's no one type of mattress you need to purchase. But, I personally perfer a firm to medium mattress. You definetly should take the mattress you are considering ,for a test drive, so to speak. The right matress really makes a difference. Make sure the mattress supports your back. When laying down the pillow you use makes a difference also. Your head when laying on a pillow should be in line with your spine. If all are alighned you should not feel stress on your back and you should sleep like a baby once again.
