Lower Back Pain— Get Out Of Old Beliefs On Back Pain

Lower back pain immobilizes and restricts especially the old people to their beds and couches for the rest of their life.

The age old advice that you should stretch your back and abdominal muscles to relieve pain does not suffice, though this is not to undermine its effectiveness altogether.

Earlier the experts prescribed these exercises on the assumption that pain is caused by stiffness of muscles and if the muscles are made pliable and soft, the pain would go away.

The truth is that the ongoing research in various health conditions including back pain is opening up new perspectives on its causes and treatment.

The current research stresses upon strengthening the muscles so that they do not feel the pain arising out of bad postures, sprains, strains, pushes and pulls.

It is like people whose immune system is so strong that they can resist the impact of viral diseases as against those who have weaker constitution and catch infection easily.

Translated in terms of back pain, your spine should be so strong that it can endure the impact of day-to-day pulls and pressures upon it.

There are two ways to achieve this goal.

1. You should engage in physical exercises that promote overall strength, stamina and endurance in the body, particularly in the muscles and tissues in the spinal column.

Since you have to develop stamina and endurance, you should continue to gradually increase the time span of your workout as often as you can.

Also, abstain from taking holidays from the workout as far as possible. Do not break your daily routine. In other words, you have to be disciplined, consistent and regular in the rigorous workouts.

2. You have to combine your workout regime with a nourishing diet; otherwise you may end up cracking your bones. Since your workout aims at strengthening the spinal cord, you should choose a diet that fulfills your aim.

Back pain is generally caused by the inflammation of the muscles and tissues. It is, therefore, recommended that your diet should include vegetables, herbs and fruits like papaya, pineapple, ginger, devil’s claw and turmeric etc that are rich in proteolytic enzymes.

Our body produces proteolytic enzymes on its own. Its production remains high when we are young. But as we grow old, its production level comes down. This explains why young people are less prone to back pain while old people suffer more from it. This deficiency can be replenished by taking some nourishing herbal supplements that contain the elements from the above mentioned herbs and fruits
