Almost all pregnant women experience secondary back pain and pressure between the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. In order for you to relieve pregnancy lower back pain, there are several ways that you can do. But before you do anything physical, make sure you have consulted your obstetrician so that you are sure that it is safe for you and your baby.
Practice Good Posture
Many pregnant women forget that the most important way of relieving pregnancy back pain is as simple as good posture. As the baby grows within your belly, the bulge will displace the center of gravity away out your body. You may not be aware that your lower back is pulled to assume a swayback posture. The back muscles become taut, short and at times extremely painful.
By standing up straight, you will stretch and lengthen the muscles to relieve pregnancy lower back pain.
Lower Back Stretch
The back muscles along with the abdominal muscles are designed to support the body’s midsection but when a woman is pregnant the abdominal muscles accommodate the growing baby. As a result, the abdominal muscles lax which will make the back muscles work extra harder. Lower back stretch will strengthen the muscles so that work will be a little easier thus easing pregnancy lower back pain.
Yoga
Prenatal yoga is one of the safe exercises you can do to ease pregnancy back pain. It is aimed for flexibility, stretching and strengthening muscles especially those that are most affected during pregnancy.
Pelvic Tilts
This exercise is otherwise known as pelvic rocking which will strengthen the abdominal muscles that gradually lax as a result of the bulging belly. This will ease pregnancy back pain and improve posture by keeping the abdominal muscles toned.
Swimming
Weight is usually supported by water when you take a dip. This will allow your back to be relieved from the pressure of the growing weight on your back and joints. Apart from this, you will also give your body a workout when you swim. However, this activity is a great way for you to relieve pregnancy back pain even without working your body out.
Acupuncture
This is a way to trigger the natural pain relief of the body by putting pressure by placing sterile needles on “energy points.” According to recent studies, acupuncture relieves pregnancy lower back pain on 60% of women.
Dealing with lower back pain while pregnant can be very frustrating. But by following the above techniques it can be reduced. Like anything else be sure and consult with your doctor when looking for a back pain cure.
