Can Bobby Valentine Turn the Red Sox Around?

This off-season Bobby Valentine left the Baseball Tonight Crew to accept the managing-position for the Boston Redsox. The Redsox fired their old skipper Terry Francona, due to their epic collapse in September last year. They have-an-abundance of talent to become contenders again and as the pieces are in place for them to compete in the American League East. The question is can Bobby V. transform the players behavior, who essentially need a real attitude adjustment.

Towards the end of the season, the media discovered that some of the players were drinking beer during the games. Supposedly, it was the pitchers who were consuming alcohol on their off days. However, whether they realized it or not, it was effecting the team in a negative way. It shows a lack of professionalism, especially to the rookie's.

With all-of-the money baseball players earn, you would presume that they would conduct themselves in a more professional matter. It demonstrates how much respect they have for the game and really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know Josh Beckett has that I don't care attitude, but John Lester's partake in the incident really shocked me. It was very obvious watching the games that the Redsox were not the same team, as they were in the-previous years.

When a team wins the World Series, you can recognize the unity they share as a team. Last year the Redsox did not-exhibit that kind of emotion during their games and had failure written all over their faces. Therefore, Bobby Valentine is going to have his hands full this year. However, if there is a manager who can turn this team around, it's Bobby Valentine. His vast knowledge in baseball is endless and he has a special connection with his players that will-establish discipline in the clubhouse.

With his first order as the Redsox manager, he has already banned alcohol in the clubhouse. So, that should take care of that situation and show the players how serious he is about resolving this issue swiftly. There are many young players on the team that will benefit tremendously from Bobby Valentine's style of coaching. Considering his 15-years of experience and .510 winning percentage, his-resume speaks for itself. He has managed over 2,000 games and is known for running a very tight ship in the clubhouse.

In conclusion, I believe the Redsox made the correct decision when they fired Terry Francona and replaced him with a brilliant manager. Francona was just too laid back with the players and they walked all over him. Obviously, these players need a manager who will instill discipline. I have great respect for Francona and believe he did a great job with the World Series teams, but the last few years the Redsox have been struggling. With the-acquisition-of Bobby Valentine the Redsox should-be back in contention in the American League East race.

Thanks Josh, I can bet that some of the Sox players will get benched this year for their bat attitudes with Bobby V. at the helm.
