The Miami Heat were the favorites to-win the NBA Championship going in to the playoffs this year. It came down to two teams, the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Just like in the regular season, they were the two best teams in the NBA this year. However, in-game one versus the Indiana Pacers, one of the big three was-injured. Chris Bosh sustained an abdominal strain and could miss the rest of the playoffs.
It's a shame, because if the Heat do not win this year it's all going to fall on Lebron's shoulders. The question is can the Heat still win it all without Bosh? Well, with the way the Oklahoma City Thunder are playing right-now even with Bosh, it was going to-be a difficult task. Now, the Heat have to-worry about getting by the Indiana Pacers and with the series tied at 1-1, it will-not-be a cake walk.
The Indiana Pacers flew under the radar all season because they are not a big market team. However, this team finished 42-24 for the season and are very capable of knocking the Heat out of the playoffs. In game 1, the Heat won the game by nine points and pretty much dominated the-whole game. The Pacers struggled offensively against Miami's relentless defense.
In game 2, it was very clear that the Heat was missing a key element in their game-plan. There is a reason why they call them the big three and not just Lebron and Wade. Bosh is a big part of the Heat's success and without him other players have to-step up. Udonis Haslem and Joel Anthony are respectable when it comes to-defense, but on the offensive side of the ball they have not been effective.
The Heat's point guard Mario Chalmers had-a-chance to-tie the game in-game 2 and put the Heat up 2-0 in the series. The three-point attempt did not fall and that's how the game ended. However, the Heat still had plenty of chances to-win the game and thanks to Lebron and Wade they were unable to-close the game out. Lebron missed two crucial free throws and Wade missed a critical lay-up that he has made time-and-time-again.
In conclusion, if the Miami Heat fail to-win a championship this year what will happen to the team? Will one of the big three be on their way out of Miami or the more obvious decision will be the coach will take the fall. I believe if they do fail to-win that Eric Spoelstra should-be the one to-blame. Although, it's the players who are unable close out the games at times, it seems the coach has made several crucial mistakes that will be inexcusable if they lose. The winner of game three will-determine who wins the series, so both teams better prepare for a battle.
Interesting! Just saw and heard on television news that the NJ Devils are saying similar things about hockey. Lack of expectations reduced pressure and let them fly a bit under the radar. Good article.
