Can the Heat Win the Championship This Year?

The Miami Heat are dominating the NBA this year and are-currently on a tear winning 12 of their last 13 games. They are 28-8 on the year and second in the Eastern Conference behind the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls are clearly the only formidable opponents that the Heat must surpass to-proceed to the NBA Finals again. Unless, the New York Knicks somehow magically improve dramatically in the next 20 to 30 games. So, the question remains can the Miami Heat redeem themselves for their demise in the Finals last year?

Last season the Heat also performed very well in the regular season and humiliated several teams with big-blowout wins. This year they are executing the same dominance and beginning to-demonstrate just how powerful they-have-become. Dwayne Wade even spent a small stint on the inactive list and the Heat were still able to-display-their-superiority in the NBA.

Lebron James is having another MVP season and has improved his game to another level once again. One of the main issues the Heat had last year in the Finals against the Mavericks was they did not attempt to drive the ball to the net. For some reason, they would attempt the arduous perimeter shots that required much more difficulty and it eventually lead to their downfall.

Another advantage the Mavericks had-was their success on the boards. They man-handled the Heat on the boards and it ended up being the difference in the series. Furthermore, the Heat did not alter their roster much this off-season, yet the team is much more proficient this year. With the-addition-of Norris Cole at point guard, he has shown some surprising scoring abilities right out of the gate.

Chris Bosh is having a much-better season this year compared to last year, when he struggled for much of the year. However, he did manage to have some good games in the playoffs, but he still needed some improvement. He was able to-accomplish that this year and it shows that his hard work this off-season paid off. Even though the Bulls have a better record than the Heat this year, somehow the Heat are still favorites to win the Eastern Conference.

In conclusion, if the Miami Heat are going to win it all this year they must execute in the big-game situations. The Heat still have a big flaw in their game, particularly when they are winning the game by a large margin. They begin to play too laid-back and in the process they allow the opposing team right back in the game. This is a key aspect of the game that they must lock-up, if they want to bring a Championship home to Miami again. They do have the most talented team in the NBA and there should-be-no-reason-why they shouldn't win it all this year.

The Heat should win it all this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. I just think teams want to beat them so bad that it will be tough. Good article

Thanks Allen, I agree it wouldn't shock me if they were unable to win it all. They are very talented though!

The Heat are not going to win the title this year, just like everyone thinks. They still have problems closing out the games and Lebron is weak. He is afraid to take the GW shot, he usually passes the ball b/c he doesn't want the pressure. Cmon, they paid you so much money earn it!

I wouldn't count them out Josh, but I can see why you have your doubts.

I think they can do it as long as they remain healthy. They have looked really good this season and if they can all lose any aspect wanting to be the top score in the playoffs and focus on the championship versus being the Playoff MVP, I think they can pull it off.

Yeah, I agree they must play as a team. Same situation with the Knicks as well! They are the most talented team out there and the Heat should win.

They definitely have the best talent. The question will remain. Does Lebron have the heart to dig deep and not give up? It is a team game but I believe Lebron is key here. You could be right, Chicago could be the roadblock from stopping Miami from getting to the championship. We shall see.

Your right it all comes down to Lebron and his will to win. Plus, they must close out their games strong!
