Get Better At Basketball By Setting Goals

Begin with the 6 P's to Success

What are the "6 P's"? They are basically a fun and easy way to remember the road to success. I don't know who said it first or who made it up but the first time I ever heard about it was from a basketball coach and it really stuck with me. It makes a lot of sense. Here are the P's of success.

Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance (some people add an additional "P" before the word poor--"piss" or a more tastefully adapted version uses the word "pathetically" before poor.)

If you want to get better at basketball then use the P's to success. You have to plan, you have to plan ahead and you have to plan correctly. Obviously your number one goal is to play better basketball on the court and you will continue to get better simply by playing but of course that isn't all there is to it.

You have to set specific goals and write down the steps you need to take in order to achieve these goals. It always helps to have your goals on paper. Put them on your mirror or somewhere you look every day. You have to practice correctly. You may have heard that practice makes perfect but that is not quite true. Perfect practice makes perfect. If you're reading this it is a good start. It means that you are ready to find ways to get better at basketball and you are on the right track.

One of the absolute best ways to get better at basketball is to find a role model to push you and mentor you. My mentor was my coach. He worked with me on and off the court. You can also check YouTube videos for pointers but videos can not replace a person who can provide you with constant feedback. Don't be afraid to ask. People who really love basketball won't pass up the chance to help someone else who is trying to get better at the game.

"If you fail to plan you plan to fail."

Let's say you want to work on your shot. Then you have to know the proper techniques for shooting the ball. If you think that you can get better simply by shooting the ball hundreds of time you are most likely wasting your time.

It takes determination and dedication to get better at basketball. As my coach used to say "if it were easy everyone would do it."
