Simply put, you want to be able to dribble the ball with your eyes clothes without fear of losing the basketball. Even if you can’t dribble every day, try to dribble as much as possible because repetition is very effective in improving ball handling ability. Make sure when you’re dribbling the basketball you aren’t looking at the basketball. If you’re just starting out then you may need to look at the basketball now and then when you’re dribbling but if you have been playing basketball for months or years, you should be able to dribble without looking at the basketball.

When you watch basketball you may have noticed that many great ball handlers use the hand they aren’t dribbling the basketball with to protect the ball from being stolen. This is an effective strategy that many basketball players use to keep the ball from being stolen. Let’s say you are dribbling the ball with your left hand, you will want to use your right hand to shield the basketball so your defender can’t steal it. Most of the time, when your defender sees you protecting the ball with your other hand, they won’t even attempt to steal the ball.
