I am Requesting a Trade
The center piece of the Orlando Magic Dwight Howard requested a trade before the beginning of the season. It is what Magic fans had been dreading, Dwight wants to win a championship, play with his friends, or just a new start. Orlando thinks that with a few more pieces that they have a shot to win it all.
Deja Vu
Shaquille O'Neal who was drafted in 1992 by the Magic and made two consecutive NBA Final appearances, but they were swept in both and after the 1996 season Shaq was a free agent and left the team to go play in LA with the Lakers. Where he went on to win multiple championships.
Rumor Mill
The rumor mill swirled round and round about where Howard would go and which players that team or teams would give up to get Howard in a multi-player trade. The shortened seasons would hold its All-Star in Orlando and everyone might get an insight in the Howard saga.
All Star Break
The All-Star break came and the events were in full swing, and Howard was apart of a few of the events. He was asked quite a few times about the trade or if he would sign an extension. He answered that this was for the fans and wanted to give them a great All-Star weekend. During the All-Star game a report came in that Howards mom wanted him to stay here in Orlando and Shaq also thought he should stay, and that the owner of the Magic was pretty sure Howard would at least finish out the season.
Current News
After the All-Star break reports came in that the Magic were trying to trade for Monta Ellis of the Golden State Warriors, which would be great but outside of Howard the Magic do not have any other players that would appeal to the Warriors. It is possible the Magic 5th in the Eastern conference might be a few players away from a championship?
My Opinion
In the NBA the Miami Heat are a loaded power house team, the Lakers were one trade away from being the other, the Clippers and Thunder are also right there. I would like Dwight to stay and hope he would sign an extension. With two, to five, or maybe even six power house teams already the league would suffer from another. I would hope he could play out the season or sign an extension, even though it is very doubtful. I hope that there are no power shifts in the NBA and we can enjoy the possibilities of any team winning the NBA Finals, it that to much to ask?
