Wizards’ John Wall Throws A Shot at Reggie Jackson? At the Nba?

If you have been a basketball fan for a couple years, you know about the Washington Wizards’ star John Wall as the basketball player, and not from his dance song “Do the John Wall”.

Wall has been selected as the No. 1 pick in the draft, has been selected to play in two all star games, and was second team All-Defensive this last season with the Wizards and their semi-courageous playoff run.

Wall, unfortunately is getting paid the same amount as Reggie Jackson, a back-up point guard for most of his career until his recent stunt with the Pistons. He stated on Comcast SportsNet Washington,”I’m getting the same as Reggie Jackson.” Do you see this as a diss? There is more than one view on this statement.

Wall states this due to his knowledge of the leagues new collective bargaining agreement and the rising prices of contracts. He is feeling some of the burn from signing his 5 year $80 million contract before the agreement back in 2013 with the Wizards.

“People talk about me getting $80 million, now you got people getting $85 million that haven’t made the All-Star [Game] or anything like that,” Wall stated. “I guess they came in at the right time. That new CBA kicked in, and they’re good now. Reggie Jackson gets five years, $80 million. I’m getting the same as Reggie Jackson.”

Reggie Jackson has been a backup for Russell Westbrook and the Thunder for many years until being traded to the Pistons and signing a 5 year $80 million contract with the Pistons during this offseason.

They have been in the league about the same length (Wall 5, Jackson 4) , but averaged a vast difference of numbers.

John Wall led Reggie Jackson in points (17.6 – 9.8), assists (8.7 – 3.6) , and notably rebounds (4.4-3.2).

Wall assured that he did not mean to offend these players in any way, but was just stating how the years have really made a difference on the NBA and the amount they are playing players of different talents.

He is just stating how some players are really getting the big bucks.

“But I’m happy for all those guys,” Wall continued. “To see anybody get the opportunity to live their dream out, get the opportunity to take care of their family when they can, it’s a blessing.”

We will have to see what impact these comments will have as the future salary cap increases happen and the decreased length of the contracts players will begin to sign, not committing to a single team with the continuous change in bargaining agreements. Let me know what you guys think, is this something to be concerned about?
