When it comes to safety in your home, one room that should not be overlooked is the bathroom, especially the bath tub or shower area. More often than not the bath tub does not have any type of non slip surface to help prevent slips and falls. When you decide to apply some type of anti slip tape, you will find that there is a large variety of types to choose from - from strips to rolls or adhesive bath and shower mats.
Many people, because of economic circumstances or just not wanting a large amount of tape on their bath tub, choose the route of applying strips to the surface of the bath tub or shower. These strips come in different sizes. Examples are ¾" wide x 7.5" long or ¾" wide x 17.5" long and even longer. Most strips are die cut with rounded edges to help keep the corners from curling. White is the most widely used color but they can also be found in clear.
Using non slip tape cut from rolls will be yet another economical solution. This gives you the advantage of having additional tape handy if replacement is needed or you find you have any other wet areas that need a non slip surface. Rolls come in a variety of widths and most rolls are 60 feet in length, giving you plenty of tape. Width sizes range from 1", 2", 3", 4' 6" and up. The rolls, like the strips, come in white which is the most desired color but can also be found in black, almond and clear.
To get the most coverage for your tub or shower, I recommend applying a non slip adhesive bath mat to the surface. This provides the most amount of slip resistance and helps eliminate any worries about areas not being covered. Adhesive bath mats come in different sizes such as 16" x 34", 16" x 40" with drain cut out or a 24" x 24" shower mat with drain cut out. As with the above mentioned styles, colors are usually white, clear or almond.
Another idea is to use the non slip tape or mat to cover any defects or blemishes in your tub that may have occurred over time. This can save hundreds of dollars over refinishing a tub surface. One recent customer of ours was removing a sliding shower door along the sill of the tub. Once the door was removed the area that was covered now looked very stained. Instead of refinishing the tub he applied a strip cut from a roll along the sill to cover the worn marked area.
If you intend on applying any non slip adhesive mat for bath tub safety it is best that your surface is smooth, clean and dry prior to the application of any product. Remember to avoid applying any tape over grout lines as it will not adhere as well as the smooth tub surface. Many bath tubs come with a pre textured surface already on the tub from the manufacturer and I would not recommend applying any tape products to this surface.
This is a great use of non skid tape. Can you get this product wholesale and is there a difference between the regular non skid tape used on stairs then what you put in bathroom?
I found out from the Tapelady at Tape Solutions, Inc. that you can not use regular adhesive non skid tapes in the bathroom because of the high level of grit could injure your body. They have different levels of non skid tapes and one used for showers and things in restrooms are different then the industrial grade non skid tapes. I found you can get the industrial tape from tapesolutionsinc at wholesale prices.
