Winter is quickly drawing to an end, but what about your hair? After all the cold outside, and hot and dry inside, your hair can get pretty damaged over the holiday season. Even if you're just looking for an affordable pick-me-up every few weeks, homemade recipes are often the best way to go. Here's a quick, easy hair mask DIY trick that you can make at home, and I'm sure you'll absolutely love!
You'll need:
- Olive Oil
- Honey
- A microwave-safe bowl
- A tablespoon for measuring
- A hairbrush
- Plastic wrap or a shower cap
- Hair clip
- Hair dryer (optional)
- Measure about 5 tablespoons of olive oil into your bowl. If you have hair past the shoulders, you may use a few more to make sure you have enough for your whole head. My hair is around the middle of my back, so I use around 8.
- Measure about 5 tablespoons of honey into your bowl. Again, up this if your hair is long or thick. I find that around half olive oil to half honey works well.
- Stir well.
- Place the bowl in the microwave for 15 - 20 seconds. Your microwave time may vary--we just want it to be warm, not boiling. Be careful when you take it out, it may be hotter than you think and you do not want to burn yourself with hot oil!
- Stir until the oil and honey are very well mixed.
- Brush your hair out.
- Apply your concoction from root to tip! (I find that flipping my hair over helps a lot in this step. You may want to do it over your bathtub, for easy cleanup.) Once your hair is well-saturated, make sure to really massage it into your ends.
- Twist your hair and clip it up. Twisting your hair keeps any existing heat from escaping, which allows your hair to absorb all the moisturizing goodness of the mask!
- Apply the plastic wrap or shower cap.
- Use your hair dryer to apply some heat. This also really assists in allowing the mixture to fully penetrate the hair.
- Leave on for 30 - 60 minutes.
- Wash and rinse your hair well. Since there is honey in this mixture, you may find that you have to shampoo more than once to completely get it out.
- Style your hair to your liking.
- Admire your revived tresses!
Your hair will feel soft, manageable, and moisturized after completing this hair mask. I like to use this mask once a week or once every two weeks to keep my hair healthy, shiny and frizz-free.
