Homegrown Bath Bombs!
I don't know about you but one of my favorite childhood memories was those terrific bath bombs. I actually got a couple for Christmas this last year which spurred my interest in the simple interesting little spheres. Bath bombs are fun. Making your own bath bombs at home is even better. This is a great hands on activity to get everyone involved in. With a little experimentation and time, you can have your very own bath bombs.
Some Things You'll Need
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1/2 cup epsom, sea, or mineral salt
- 3/4 tbsp. water
- 2 tsp. essential oils (body safe! try tea tree oil, lavender, or eucalyptus)
- 2 1/2 tbsp. olive oil
- mold of some sort
- food coloring (optional)
Where To Find the Ingredients
Your supermarket is an excellent source for most of the products. You may have to go to your local health store to find essential oils. Citric acid may be called 'sour salt.' Pretty much anything can be used as a mold such as ice cube trays.
Directions
Combine baking soda, cornstarch, citric acid, and salts in a glass bowl, blend until smooth. Add water, oils, and food coloring. Continue stirring until smooth with no lumps. Spoon into molds, remove, and let set. The bath fizzes don't need to stay in the mold for long, just long enough to get some shape.
Viola! Bath bombs!
