Sweet almond oil is a carrier oil extracted from sweet almonds. You can use it for so many different things, which I will describe here.
Hair - Sweet almond oil is commonly used to assist in hair growth. This use of the oil started a very long time ago, in ancient Egypt. This definitely lends it some credibility as this use of the oil is still existent today. However, some people suggest that the act of massaging something into the scalp aids in growth purely because it promotes good circulation to the scalp. Try applying this and massaging it into the scalp. Some people mix it half and half with castor oil, as well. Leave this on for 15-30 minutes, and then wash your hair well. You can also apply it to your dry hair and leave it on for about 15-30 minutes and wash it out. It's very moisturizing, and you should notice a difference the first time you do this. It has been said to strengthen the hair shaft to aid in preventing breakage.
Skin - Sweet almond oil is great for your skin. It is packed chock-full of antioxidants and vitamins (including lots of vitamin E!) which help to keep the skin healthy, moisturized, and glowing. It is not greasy and will not clog your pores, which is why its a good choice when applying to your face (some people like olive oil, but its too heavy for most and can clog pores and cause breakouts). Try applying it to your face before bed. In the morning, you will notice how smooth and supple your face feels and looks. I often use sweet almond oil for dark circles, because it tends to have a lightening effect. If you apply it to your undereyes once in the morning and once at night, you are sure to see results (yay, less concealer!). You can also apply it to your lips, which moisturizes them better than any lip product I've ever found. I pour a little bit of oil into a very small, travel-sized squeeze bottle and take it with me wherever I go. Taking care of your skin is so important, especially if you wear makeup. Having healthy skin will make your cosmetics look 100 times better than if you don't!
Digestive Health - Sweet almond oil has been not only used externally, but also internally for a long time. Consuming sweet almond oil (I recommend it on a salad) is supposed to increase the health of your digestive system, and cure indigestion, heartburn, and other common stomach troubles. This could be a good alternative for those with acid reflux who don't want to take a prescription which has detrimental side-effects long-term.
Now you can see why I absolutely love sweet almond oil. It can be used for so many different things that its great to always have a bottle on hand. I see it as one of my essential beauty products. It's also great value for the money, because it is inexpensive compared to other oils, but definitely not at the expense of its quality. Try sweet almond oil for yourself!
