Wrinkles are creases, folds or ridges in the skin. Most wrinkles tend to appear in the parts of the body that receive more exposure to the sun, such as the backs of hands, neck, face and tops of forearms.

In as much as wrinkles can give people an aspect of wisdom, most people do not appreciate them. A lot of money is used in the whole world in an attempt to cure them. Doctors have made several attempts and some have considerable success.

Unluckily enough, when skin loses its collagen, which is the skin’s main tightening protein necessary for a smooth taut surface. This makes everyone accessible to the fine lines, sagging and hollowness that appear on the face. The end results or rather effects of getting old on the dermal layer are seeable. Not only does the dermal layer gets slimmer, but also less collagen is produced.

Most basic wrinkle treatments help reduce the fine lines. For deeper wrinkles, more aggressive techniques such as plastic surgery or injections (fillers) are recommended. Other than the normal aging process, the following factors are believed to promote the development of wrinkles:

Exposure to UV (ultraviolet light);

Some people whose jobs expose them to more sun rays tend to develop wrinkles much earlier than others for instance, fishermen, farmers, sailors, golf players, as well as gardeners. Also, people who spend most of their time out in the sun during their leisure time are most likely to develop wrinkles earlier.

Smoking

Research holds and confirms that cigarette smoke causes aging skin simply because it releases an enzyme that destroys collagen and elastin, which are important components of the skin structure. The downturn in collagen paves the way for wrinkles. Experts say that regular smoking reduces blood supply to the skin and this causes aging of the skin.

Gene factor

If your parents developed wrinkles earlier in their life than other people, then your chances of going through the same is a bit higher when compared to somebody whose parents developed wrinkles much later than the others.

Light skin

People with light skin tend to experience a higher level of sun ray damage, which usually causes the development of wrinkles.

Facial expressions

People who constantly smile, frown or even squint will sure develop fine lines and wrinkles much earlier. Every time that we use a facial muscle a groove forms under the surface of the skin. When you are young the skin springs back, but as you grow older, the skin gets older too and loses its flexibility thus springing back becomes harder and less frequent, hence, causes more permanent grooves.

It is important to bear in mind that wrinkles are not usually considered as medical conditions or diseases because they are not life-threatening or harmful to physical health.But if your wrinkles bother you, you should consider nonsurgical face lifts
