Many people associate acne with the teen years, making it challenging for teenagers to get the best treatment for acne. With some disregarding the condition as a normal puberty stage that will be over. As much as this is true, acne can last for years affecting the growth pattern of the adolescence. There is dire need to get the right treatment for the teens.
Two categories of acne medication are available; Natural treatments and Over the counter treatments. Natural medications are available, efficient and have a nourishing effect to the skin. There is the believe that antibiotics work faster, which is not always the case. They are also known to damage sensitive skin, hence not advisable to use. It is important to note that there are effective antibiotics in the market. Below is a brief description of the available medicines of this skin condition.
Natural treatments
Most of the natural treatments are available at home, and are cheap to use. Below are some that give positive results and a healthy skin.
Lemon juice
lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and citric acid. Both of which are good for the skin, Vitamin C helps repair broken skin tissue, while the acid will clean deep into the skin, killing bacteria trapped under the skin. For better results, it is advisable to smear the juice on the skin at least twice ever day.
Natural honey
Use natural honey to make a face-mask, and leave overnight. This is a sure way to get rid of acne fast. The honey acts as a bacteria destroyer and strengthens the skin tissue. Giving quick results and this is what teenagers want.
Water
Drinking lots of water keeps the skin hydrated and soft. A soft and hydrated skin does not break often when compared to a dry skin. If the skin is hydrated the pores open allowing for dirt and bacteria that cause of acne to escape.
Antibiotics
When selecting an antibiotic as acne treatment, the advice of a skin expert is necessary, this is because some do work well for specific types of skins and do not work for others. Acne bacteria also resist some antibiotics, making them redundant for use as a medication. All in all there are generally good over the counter treatments that a teenage can use.
Erythromycin
Erythromycin is better than tetracycline because it has anti-inflammatory properties. If taken after a meal, the results are terrific, this makes it friendly to teens who like eating lots of food. Besides killing bacteria it reduces the acne blemish and inflammations.
Benzoyl peroxide
Benzoyl is a good bacteria killer, available in various forms, such as; soaps and creams. When used on the skin everyday at least twice a day the patient will get the best results. All these treatments are suitable for mild cases. Serious cases that attract pus, are best treated by a specialist. For the best result stick to a specific medication; because mixing medications results to more complications
