Whatever your age or gender; you are likely to suffer from acne from time to time. The inflammation condition occurs when bacteria cover the skin pores, this leads to hair follicle bending causing inflammation. It is possible to treat acne, some of the best treatments of acne are antibiotics that kill bacteria and keep off other bacteria from the skin. Below are some of the antibiotics that cure acne.
Tetracycline
This is a commonly used antibiotic, because many doctors prescribe it. However, you should use it for a short duration of time, as bacteria causing acne resist it strongly. It has limitations that include; you should take it on an empty stomach; this is not friendly to those who eat lots of food. Another drawback is that it is not useful for children under the age of 9 years and for women taking contraceptives it affects the effectiveness of the contraceptives. At times, it causes skin sensitivity to sunburns.
Minocycline
This is an old antibiotic treatments (having been around for decades); the medication derived from tetracycline is a good treatment of acne. It is not as efficient as tetracycline. Major side effects of the drug include; dizziness, nausea, vomiting, skin and teeth discolouration. It is not advisable to take it for a long time.
Erythromycin
This is an efficient antibiotic for acne. When you compare with tetracycline it is a better anti-inflammatory and kills bacteria faster. You should take it on a full stomach, this makes it beneficial to teenagers, and pregnant women can use it. The limitations of using it include; stomach upset and nausea.
Doxycycline
Doxycycline is a relatively good acne treatment, usually recommended those who do not fare well with tetracycline. Unlike tetracycline, you can take it on a full stomach to avoid nausea. It is more likely to increase skin sensitivity to the sun; you should avoid direct sunburns on the skin after use.
Clindamycin
Mostly prescribed as a topical antibiotic, it is a useful oral-treatment for acne. The major side effects of using it, is it causes serious intestinal infection. On the positive side though, at times it is used as a topical treatment, making it a safer and efficient treatment to use, it acts as a good bacteria destroyer.
Benzoyl peroxide
It is available in different forms namely: cleansers, gels, lotions. It is in many soaps and lotions. It is an excellent acne treatment. It is also a good preventive measure against acne.
Accutane
This orally taken medication has proved to effectively in clearing acne. It gives lasting results. Pregnant women should not use it, as it affects the child's development causing complications.
All of the above antibiotics have side effects, some work effectively for some and others are not helpful. It is always advisable to see a skin specialist before any medication; for the correct antibiotic prescription.
