Healthy Skin-Water Intake

There are numerous benefits to drinking water. Not only could we not exist without it, but it is a most important factor to living a healthy life. Water is sometimes taken for granted, with many people preferring sodas, juices, and coffee. However, if people drank water instead, they would see and feel the wonderful benefits of it. Water is important for not only hydrating and energizing our body, but our skin as well.

Healthy Habits

To ensure that you get the proper amount of water into your system daily, it's good to keep it around you all the time, and I’m not talking about the 97% concentration that makes up your body. These tips help drinking water become a healthy habit:

  • Get a refillable water bottle. Many bottles that are eco-friendly and make drinking water a little more fun. Find one with an insertable cooling system or filter to make it worthwhile.
  • Two 8 oz glasses of water every three to four hours is a good goal.
  • Keep a water bottle at hand, in your purse, on your desk-wherever it is easiest to reach. The more you sip on water throughout the day, the more energized and able to function you are.
  • Add lemon to water whenever possible. Studies have shown this boosts your immune system, helps your digestive system and helps suppress hunger. Drink lemon water hot to help with your respiratory system and help clear your skin as well.

Moisturize

Water is the most important element for our body and skin on the inside, but it is also important to keep it moisturized on the outside as well. Drinking water helps to moisturize the skin from the inside and helps with oily or dry skin. As a proactive measure, it helps normalize the skin and when used in combination with a skin care program, hydration can help stop oily skin as well as dry skin.

Included in your skin care program, you should also directly cleanse and moisturize the skin with hydrating products. Different areas have different needs and you can distinguish between facial, body, hands and feet. Products for the face must hydrate, but your specific skin situation is unique and you may need to use products for oily, dry, normal or combination skin. The time of year can affect the type of moisturizer you use on your body, while the hands and feet typically have consistant needs.

Aveda has effective, high-quality, all-natural products. A home routine combined with regular monthly visits to your esthetician for a facial will produce great results you can see and feel. So many of us are diligent about our facials and forget about the rest of our body. Remember to get at scrub and wrap at least every three months. It will help counter premature aging caused by smog, sun, wind and all the other environmental effects that work against us. It will leave your skin moisturized and hydrated.

And remember to drink lots of water!
