Hair Breakage -What Causes It?
Hair can be damaged by chemical exposure, constant prolonged heat, harsh manipulation when wet, and excessive straightening and perming. When hair is dry, hard, and brittle, it is in need of oils (hot oil treatments). Warm olive oil, jojoba oil, grape seed oil, or any natural oil (not mineral oil) should be applied to the hair. To warm these oils up, you simply put the oil in a small container with a lid or cap and run it under hot water for about 2 minutes. After applying the oil of your chose to your hair from root to ends, wrap a warm towel around your head for 10 minutes. You can also place a plastic cap over the towel to keep the towel in place and also hold the temperature of the towel a bit longer. Weekly or regular use of these oils will help with hair breakage.
There are ingredients you can easily find in your kitchen to stop hair breakage and add shine. Eggs are full of protein and is an age old remedy. After washing hair leave damp. Take an egg beat it and apply to the entire head of hair from root to tip. Let stand for 40 minutes. Its important not to comb, brush, or bend the hair because the egg dries on the hair to a hard state. Be sure to rinse out carefully. Mayonnaise is a good anti-breakage agent as well. Apply to hair before shampooing. Let stand for 30 minutes with a plastic cap, rinse, then shampoo and condition as usual. You can alternate between the two, both works really well.
The last tip is our conditioners, the rinse outs and the leave-in. Very important in stopping hair breakage and damage to the hair. Severely damaged hair lack moisture, so its always good to use a good deep moisturizing conditioner to keep the hair hydrated. After washing, apply a deep moisturizing conditioner to damp hair then let stand for at lease 10 minutes covered with a plastic cap. After rinsing out deep moisturizing conditioner apply your leave-in conditioner. With leave-in conditioners you are not required to rinse out and it does wonders in severe hair breakage.
