Acne is not limited to puberty, it affects many adults across the world. Many of us use antibiotics that contain many harmful chemicals. Too much use of these medications does more harm to your skin, choosing the right antibiotic is also a daunting task. As a substitute, people have discovered several natural treatments that clear acne, giving you a smooth skin free of acne blemishes.
Diet
Top in the list is the diet you take. You must have come across the quote 'no disease that is treatable by diet should be treated by any other medicine.', well this is true for our case. You do not need to face the challenges that tag along the use of antibiotics or any other over the counter acne treatment. Foods rich in Vitamin A, C, B-5 and oils such as fish oil are good skin treatments. They have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities, this means besides killing bacteria they minimise acne swelling. It is advisable to include these kinds of food in your everyday meal for a clear skin.
Other options include natural topical treatments such as olive oil, tea tree oil and Aloe Vera; all act as good skin moisturisers reducing the risk of skin breaks that would lead to acne scarring, that you do not want.
Aloe Vera
Soothes the skin, relaxing the skin tissues. This opens up the skin pores letting out dirt trapped under it. Besides been a good anti-bacteria, it has anti-inflammatory properties. If you apply on the skin and leave for some time, it reduces the swellings, and redness caused by acne. It is available as skin gels, that is if you can not get the plant. You may also take its juice; known to clean toxins in the body.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is another common natural acne treatment, found mostly in Australia. Gently apply the oil on your skin, using cotton wool and leave for some time. Used twice a day it give the best results. The antimicrobial property makes it a very effective treatment to use, as it clears up acne in a very short duration of time.
Olive oil
Olive oil softens the skin, this in turn reduces chances of the skin breaking. For better results it is advisable to apply on the skin twice every day. Just like the rest it has non-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants such as Vitamin A and E that repair damaged skin, this makes healing faster.
There are other home-based treatments that include; toothpaste, and Lemon Juice
Toothpaste
It is important to note at this point that some of the toothpaste have breaching effect and are to be avoided. Toothpaste dries up the skin, absorbing excess oil trapped under the skin. This reduces acne blemish especially white-head, it has some anti bacteria qualities that not only fight bacteria but prevent future skin breakage.
Lemon Juice
The acidic property of lemon juice acts as a deep skin cleanser. Citric acid contained in lemon juice not only absorbs the excess oil in the skin, it also peels the dead outer skin layer. This causes redness and drying to the skin, but if used consistently the acne should clear.
