You might have been thinking about shaving your head for a while now, but didn't know if it would be practical. This article discusses some of my practical reasons for shaving my head.
Let's Save Some Money - Or Not
The first reason that comes to mind for many people is money. A lot of people think this is the most practical reason because you no longer have to worry about paying for haircuts and hair products such as shampoo, conditioner, and gel. Initially, this appears to be very practical, but if you dig deeper the answer gets a little trickier.
While you may save money on haircuts and hair products you still need a way to shave your head. If you use a razor you will find yourself using more razor cartridges. We all know these aren't exactly cheap. Another option is to buy a set of clippers to trim your hair. You can get a close buzz, but you will not be able to get down to skin if that's what you're looking for. If you use a straight razor you will still have to buy the razor and strop at a minimum. Also, plan on spending about $40 a year to pay someone to hone it. If you use the hair removal cream you still have to buy it.
I don't really consider the cost factor a practical reason because of everything I said above. I would say you still spend about the same amount of money. You would have to do a really in depth analysis to find out whether you would save money by shaving your head. The one exception would be if you use products to try to get your hair to grow back. Then you may vary well save money by shaving your head.
Shaved Heads Are Sexy:
A second practical reason to shave your head is for aesthetics. You may have a receding hairline and/or a growing bald spot. These things can make it hard to style your hair. Let's face it, comb overs aren't sexy, but shaved heads can be very sexy.
Easy Maintenance:
Another practical reason is that a shaved head is easy to maintain. It's easy to shave your head with a razor. When you get the hang of it you can shave your head with a razor in less than 5 minutes. Compare that to the amount of time you spend washing your hair, styling it, and going to the barber for a haircut.
Is It Hot In Here?
A final practical reason is that a shaved head is a lot cooler in the summer. You don't have as much hair keeping you warm. Just remember to put sunscreen on. :)
As you can see there are some very practical reasons to shave your head. There are also some reasons that seem practical at first, but also have their own trade offs. Ultimately, it's up to you to determine if these reasons are practical for you, in your situation.
As a final note, you don't necessarily need a practical reason to shave your head. You can just try it out for fun, and you might end up like in it which to me is the most practical reason to shave your head. Also, watching videos on head shaving, can make your first attempt go a lot smoother if you do decide to do it.
