Ways To Reduce Nerves As A First  -  Time Spa User

It can be a little bit stressful visiting a spa for the first time. This is common. Many spa first timers are nervous. But don’t let nerves prevent you from enjoying what could be a very pleasant experience.

Preparation can be key to calming nerves. This holds true for spa visits as much as it does for other areas of your life too. Part of preparation knows what to expect. Often you’ll be told what to expect when you visit a spa for the first time. But if you’re not, the following points will give you an idea of what to expect. These points are applicable to day spas and destination or resort spas like Honor’s Haven.

• Arrive early. Generally 15 minutes so you can complete paperwork and get into the right mindset for relaxation. If there are other facilities you’d like to enjoy like a hot tub or steam room, arrive even earlier.

• Let the front desk know it’s your first time and if there’s anything you should know.

• Front staff people are helpful in making people feel comfortable visiting a spa for the first time. They’ll give you a tour and explain the different areas to you.

• Sit in a waiting/meditation room before your treatment is scheduled to start.

• When it’s time for your treatment, your therapist will come and get you and take you to the treatment room.

• For a massage, the therapist will tell you how to get up on the table, explain the process and ask what areas you would like most focused on before leaving the room.

• You’ll remove your robe and hang it on a hook and get underneath the towel or sheets.

• The therapist will knock on the door before entering to make sure you’re ready, covered and comfortable.

• After the massage, your therapist will leave the room to allow you to get up again and put on your robe. You’ll meet your therapist outside the room and take you back to the mediation room for your next treatment.

You can make a few requests when it’s your first time at a spa. Communication, too, is key to helping you feel as comfortable as possible.

• When booking the appointment, be honest. Let the staff know this is your first spa visit and you’re not sure what to expect. If the staffs are doing their job properly, they should take the time to answer any of your questions.

• Let the front staffs know if you have a preference for a male or female massage therapist. Most times they’ll ask you, but if they don’t, it’s okay to let them know.

• If you’re not sure about what’s included in any of the treatments, it’s completely acceptable to ask. You want to make sure you get a spa treatment that’s right for you. The most common treatments are facials, manicures and pedicures, massage (and there’s a lot of different kinds of massage) and body treatments.

• Ask for a tour of the facilities. Smaller day spas may not be able to accommodate you. But larger destination or resort spas like Honor’s Haven generally can.
