Why would protein be good for hair? One reason would be because protein is all hair is. It is a protein and that is what it will take to keep it like such. It is composed of ninety percent protein. But understanding the chemical makeup of hair is important if you want to know what this protein is capable of.
Each hair follicle have cells within them that creates protein. This is where the hair shaft begins. Once they mature, she begin to keratinize and fill up with protein. Eventually they lose their nucleus and die. By the time it begins to show it's face outside the scalp, the cells (hair) are completely dead.
The protein makeup of hair contains carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur. A few of those ingredients are key reasons as to why exercise and water are very important when trying to grow out healthy, strong hair.
The outermost layer of the the hair shaft (cortex) is surrounded by long chains of amino acids that hold the hair fibers in place and provide strength and elasticity for wet sets, heat styling, permanent waves, and relaxers. Permanent waves (curly perms) relaxers (straighteners) are known to break and reform them during the neutralizing and rinsing phases. But once these bonds are broken using a relaxer, it's a permanent process and cannot be reformed. Therefore the only way to correct that is by cutting off relaxed ends.
Melanin are tiny pigment particles that determine your natural hair color. It's a mix of two different types that allow for dark and light tones in the natural hair. What color you end up with is determined by the ratio and the size of the two types of melanin. Gray hair is considered to be the one hair color that does not have any melanin. It has the same properties as all other types but just lacks melanin.
Your wave pattern is something that refers to the shape of your hair strand and can be straight, wavy, curly, or extremely curly. This is determined by your genetics and this is not something that can be changed, unless you are using chemical relaxers or permanent waves to temporarily change that. Those with extremely curly hair will definitely benefit from scalp manipulations, conditioning shampoo and detangling creams because they can minimize the snarls.
There are many old and new theories about why hair has a particular wave pattern and shape. But there is no concrete answer on this and they all still prove to be unproven. However, we do know that hair protein is something that is created underneath the surface of the scalp and is alive and well before it comes out. Once it comes out, it's the owner's responsibility to take care of it and lead the way. Understanding the structure of hair makes it a bit easier to figure out more about your own hair type. The more research you do, the better off you'll be with taking care of your lovely strands.
