Have you ever wonder that if you have the right chicken coop plans it will be so easy to create your own chicken coop? Well here are some tips about the floor requirements of your new project and believe it is not as difficult as many people think!
The general rule about the space that a healthy chicken need is 2 square feet per chicken expect if you have some bantam that need little less about 1,5 square per chicken. Here, I want to attract your attention with something that most of the educated people do not refer.
The more space you willing to give your chicken it will return to you with an amazing health plus productivity bonus and avoid behaviors like cannibalism or little amount of eggs. Of course, your small chickens for their first 10 weeks of their life require only one square, and it is fair enough, but you have to act and the thing for the size and weight of your chicken after the past of two months. For my personal experience don’t make the mistake that many people do in their first steps and make a big chicken coop in their backyard without a good plan and as the result of this in the end they have a dirty, dark and completely wrong constructed chicken coop. If you are beginner builder, try to make a small construction with maximum 20 chickens to understand the progress and only after the past of first 6 months and if it is all ok with your folks try something bigger.
Let’s say that you consider all of this, and you are ready for step two! Which is this step? The answer is simple what type of chicken coop you decided because each of them require a different amount of space. There are 2 types of housing space that you can provide for your flock (cage system) and (floor housing).
The Cage solution is more effective with commercial use than the other who is just for personal use.
The cages containing one or two birds are lined up horizontally and on the top of each other. You can understand that this kind of plan it doesn’t recommend for someone that want to simple have some chickens and just cover his daily needs, but it is for as I told in the begging for commercial use. The best part is with much more little space than floor housing you can have about 3 times more daily eggs supplies and without much trouble.
On the other hand, floor housing gives the benefit for your flock to access on every single corner of your chicken coop. So they can go to their nest or to the water area or even to hunt and peck of some of their own food within your chicken coop! Personal I persuade some flowers and vegetables in the corners of my chicken coop and because my flock is familiar about this tastes I offer them and another food opportunity expect the ordinary daily food progress.
I hope to understand the process of making a successful chicken coop plan because is the very important to avoid behavior like cannibalism and diseases. Remember the key is the right floor management and separate what kind of chicken coop need for personal or commercial use.
