The Majestic Hahns Macaw

These majestic Red-Shouldered Macaws are a real treat to have in your home. They are known as the Red-Shoulder Macaw or the Hahn’s Macaw. The love they show is unconditional and the affection they give is endless. Yes they may the human leach but it is nice to know you have a pocket size Macaw. They have the big Macaw attitude in a pint size. There beak may not be as big but it can still get you with nips and draw blood. They have a great disposition in how they carry themselves with such pride. There a color of emerald green and yellow under wings with the navy forehead and the red shoulders is just as striking. They may not be as colorful as the giant macaws but they are just as grand.

Intuitive One may think they are intuitive. They know things before they happen. When our Lambeau gives off the warning call: which can be ear piercing and difficult to calm her down. You know there is a problem outside or something is going to happen in the near future. She may not talk but her chatter is just as communicative.

Lambeau Lambeau is fourteen now and it has been nothing but a joy to have. Her little attitude is enamoring. You look at her in amazement and can’t believe she is not one of her larger cousins. It can be annoying when she clings to you and does not want to get off and yet she can sit with you for hours contently and just cuddle you. She lives with an Amazon and African Grey and she rules the roost. When we got the Amazon she was two and she showed Gonzo the ropes of the house. Pretty soon they were the best of buddies. They still cuddle at night and sleep side by side. She hasn’t quite taken to the African Grey. Sparky is much larger than her and he is a lot more boisterous than Gonzo. She watches from a distance and puts up with Sparky’s antics.

The Debate There is the debate if the Nobel Macaw is smaller than the Hahn’s or the Hahn’s is smaller than the Nobel. The only real difference between the two is the color of the beak. One is black as on the Hahn’s and the Nobel has a horn colored beak. When the Hahn’s matures is when their beautiful red shoulders show. These little guys show great intelligence and are extremely easy going. They are extremely social and love to go out on the town with their owner. I would take Lambeau to grocery stores, the bar or just to run errands as a baby when establishments allowed it. She loved it and all the attention she received; she would just eat it up.

Why You Want One You have to remember they are pint size macaws. They require lots of socialization and if you accomplish that you will have on happy friend. Their cage needs to be larger then you expect. They need room to play and just hang out. They eat seed, pellets, fruits and veggies. They love to eat off your plate and share any meal you are eating. If you have always wanted that macaw and you don’t have the room, this choice to have a Hahn's is a great one because you get all the attributes of a large macaw in a pocket size.
