Article Writing; Blogging Et Al – the Power Of A Comment

How much power has a simple comment?

A good few months ago, I, was encouraged by others to place some of my photos on a blog for all to see. Article writing only allowing a small thumb print picture, I felt it a good idea. But how to drive people to a blog?

I've followed many articles setting forth the way and means of how to drive traffic to ones website, and gave much thought to my photo blog. I have no adverts on the blog, no links, back links and honestly not much thought given to key words for those searching to even find the blog. However I started my blog on Green Keeping, keeping a low profile till the program being encoded for me completed, or nearly completed. As this blog was already established I created another in the same program, and posted photos and short explanation as to my intention.

How now to tell people about it? Every time I posted a photo or two I advertised the fact on Face Book, was there a reaction? I got a few look in as well as the odd like, but no fireworks, nothing of any significance. What should I try now? I'd followed the Rhodesian groups on Face Book and posted the blog link to them, with a simple comment telling those far and widely spread fellow citizens of my country to look at the photos and gave a link. Once more this attracted the odd viewer, the odd comment, and even on the day I posted my photos of the Leopard I got surprising little reaction.

The next step I felt was to look for like-minded people, a point been suggested in a differing way on articles I read. How to find them, was simple enough, a Google search gave millions of links. I made the mistake of looking at and beginning to follow professional photographers. No way was I ever going to emulate their photos. Their use of the best equipment and photo manipulating programs beyond my highest hope. Comment on their photos? This would never happen, not from me, I was too ashamed to show them a link to my site. I have low self-esteem when it comes to critiquing my work, every one else is better.

Scratch that avenue, let me seek out bloggers that posted on their sites for fun. Again the search spewed out many, yet their photos phenomenal, composition, the eye, the ideas all way to good for me. Yet I was now needing a home, like the proverbial puppy I wanted some love, some attention, some response from people unable to see my disappointment if I received a critique that I did not like. I need encouragement, more than my wife and family give me. A photo on a blog belonging to a women in Turkey caught my eye, it was so good and so well composed that I had to comment, and I did.

Using my best learnt language from Street Articles I described why and how I loved the photos, this drew a response in return, a quick one at that. I had still not shared my link and continued to look and follow others I felt fantastic. My laptop gave the normal signal of the receipt of an email, it was from her, saying how she had found my site and loved my photos. She also reposted my blog to hers, with a comment unreadable to me, not understanding her language, and all hell broke loose. My emails started to come in so fast I thought the telephone was ringing. With in a short time I had followers, I received comments, I got likes and I felt wanted by others, if for nothing else, for my photos.

All of this happened and is now an ongoing occurrence every time I post another set of my shots. How did it happen again? From commenting and praising a fellow photographer, who I considered way above my head when it came to photography, who in return felt mine just as good.

The power of a comment, either on a photo or an article, can drive so much more traffic your way.

It really is funny that your article was on the comments. I reason I am here was because of the nice comment you wrote on Chris's about fiver. This was a great article. Thank you Kymee

Thank you Kymee.. I have not been too active here for a while, as I am launching a computer software package that I designed. But it is nice to know people are still seeing my comments and reading my articles. I blog photos on another site and somehow the comments there are just as profuse. With 36 000 views I somehow manage to attract 12 500 comments on 363 posts, seems astounding. The proof of commenting on other posts is proven, by this very fact. Have a blessed day.

I really liked your article. Sometimes it really is the simplest things that work the best. I know for me I always try to over complicate things and it always leads to frustration! Thanks for the advice.

Dear Rob, this is wonderful written piece. You expressed so nicely. I come from a hard writing voyage (especially in my onw language) so I know what means all these comments... I always do appreciate comments more than my own post/writing/works... Encouragement, support is so important for all of us. Thank you for this nice article. With my love, nia

Rob, you sure write a lot of engaging articles that I want to comment on! :) I personally write my content with the aim of getting user engagement, whether that is comments or it is getting it shared. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing your content received in a positive and sometimes in a negative way (if you are looking for many different types of opinions). :)

Thanks Kyle, I write some hoping to stir the thoughts of others. I find the authors I follow on this site so exciting in their wish to share, those obviously under assignment to write an article about a certain subject. It is interesting how they differ and it gives one an insight as to their personality. Now I love to stir a bit every now and then just to get the reactions, I learn so much about those that comment. My photo blog is receiving good hits now from lessons I learnt here, from articles written by different authors, I am having such a ball with my article writing, some thing I never thought I could do. I should thank you for this site, it has been a God send for me.

That is great to hear. I can tell you that over the years my writing has also improved drastically through writing. Writing in a way that is subjective. Writing in a way that is objective. At many times, my content is also very opinionated which makes it much more interesting. These are three qualities that I am finding that you have within your writing, some have all, some have a few of these components. I always look forward to checking out your latest article Rob. Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much Jenny, for the look in and comment, if it in anyway helps I'm pleased. All I try to do is give my opinion and if it strikes a cord in another I feel I've succeeded.

Hi Mister Ainslie, I feel refreshed after reading your article and your words have made me feel that my simple ways are not as simple after all, and that they can bring the attention I need. Thanks so much!Smiles

Hey Jesse, if my article has made you realise a talent that you have I'm happy. I for one always doubt my own articles, being a terrible critic of my own words, however comments like yours allows me to think I'm doing something right.
