So you have created a blog. You got yourself a cool URL, wrote a few posts and even promoted it to your Facebook friends and Twitter followers. There is just one important thing missing though - traffic. No one seems to be reading your blog except your close friends and your parents. Below are some blogging tips that can help you get more readers.
Find a popular yet unsaturated niche
The reason why your blog is not driving traffic probably has something to do with the niche you have chosen. That is if you have actually chosen a niche. In Internet marketing, a niche has the same meaning as market, a segment of the population that you intend to reach. There are two possible problems when it comes to choosing a niche. You can choose a niche that is either too big or too small.
The problem with a big niche is that many businesses are probably marketing to it already. If a niche is too small, on the other hand, then it means it has very few members and therefore not really worth marketing to. One thing that you can do is to focus on a particular angle of a large niche. If you want to target the weight loss niche and reach people wanting to become fitter, for example, then you can probably focus on a particular diet program or a particular group of people to narrow the niche down.
Write quality content
If you are actually getting readers but find it hard to keep them then the problem, most likely, is that they don't find your content engaging enough for them to visit for a second time. Blog posts need not be long. It is actually advisable that you keep them short so as not to lose the short attention span of most netizens. The key is to create a post that is useful. It should solve a problem, answer a question or at least entertain your readers. And you should keep writing quality content even if you don't have many readers. Traffic comes once you have established your blog as a good source of useful information.
Join a blogging community
The best way to learn about driving traffic to your blog is to get advice from established bloggers. This is why it is important to join a blogging group or community. Many long time bloggers are more than willing to assist newbies. For sure, many of these bloggers will also be more than happy to put a link of your blog on their sites. Of course, you should repay the kindness by also linking their blogs on yours. It is also a good practice to comment on the posts of other bloggers. Just make sure that your comments are sincere though. Experienced bloggers will know if you are simply spamming.
