How To Blog Daily: 5 Things You Should Do

Is your goal to write a blog daily or maybe every second day? That’s great. Here are some tips that I've found to be particularly helpful:

1. Have a Plan: I've spoken elsewhere about the importance of having a vision and a purpose for your website but now I want to speak more to planning out what you are going to write. To begin, it may be useful to have a diary or calendar to plot out your posts. You need to see that there is a progression in what you are writing.

As an example, if your blog is about flowers (although that in itself is too broad) you could then blog about flowers from different countries. You would select a number of flowers from each and plot out your schedule of when you will write about them. And then move on to the next country. Although I personally don’t know a lot about flowers even in my own country, I am already envisioning how this would look on a calendar. Is it reasonable that you could spend a month on each? Just remember to leave yourself time to research so you are also providing quality content about your subject.

2. Create a writing and publishing schedule: Determine when is the best time of day for you to write. It may be that you want to break this into chunks of time so you are giving yourself much needed breaks. I would begin with your research, take notes, and then begin writing your blog. Keep an eye out during your research for pictures as these greatly enhance the look of your blog. Using our example, imagine a blog about flowers without actual pictures.

Whether you use social media, forums or article websites, give yourself time to post your newest blog and share it. Oftentimes we write, post the blog on our site, and wait for visitors. But you have to go out and find them and guide them to your site.

Assuming you are working from home, make sure you tell your family and friends what you are doing and that you need some time to focus on your blog.

3. Keyword Research: You want to know that what you’re writing about is being searched for. There are many techniques and tools available to you to research what people are actually typing into the search engines. Try it yourself, go on your favorite search engine and type in something about your niche and see what you find. The things you search for and how you enter your query is also how others will search.

You can actually use the alphabet to help as well. Type in your query, hit the space bar, and then type in “a”, then “b”, then “c”…etc. You will see a number of related keywords pop down from the search bar and you are then well on your way to getting loads of ideas for your blog.

4. Have a notebook: Don’t worry about buying an expensive, nice-looking, and leather-bound book because it looks so nice you will be afraid to write in it. Get one of the cheap run-of-the-mill notebooks that you don’t care if you spill some coffee on or if your dog gets a hold of. You need something to write in order to plan out your daily blog.

I keep one of these beside my laptop all the time and, whether I’m doing keyword research and want to remember what I've found or keeping notes that are the framework for my next blog, it’s always open and ready to receive my thoughts.

It’s also useful to keep a “travelling notebook” with you because who knows when the best idea ever hits you. Many of us would very likely forget what it was by the time we get to pen and paper so better to have something with you at all times to jot your ideas down.

5. Finally, have fun: You need to be motivated and look forward to blogging on a daily basis. It can’t become something that’s a chore or a task to do that you dread…we have enough of those in our lives. This needs to be something that energizes you, which refreshes you before or after a long day at work.

Your visitors will know if this is a labor of love or a chore that needs to be done so it can be checked off a list. The tone of your blog will come through so better to be helpful and positive than bored or frustrated.

Hopefully you have found these 5 tips to be helpful in writing your blog. If you find that writing daily is too much, consider every other day, every third day, or even once a week. The important thing is that you post regularly so that your readers know when to expect the next one. And if you've got a great blog going…they will wait with eager anticipation…and maybe even share it with their family and friends.

Happy blogging and thank you for taking the time to read this.
