If you’ve been a Wordpress blogger for any length of time, you’ve probably learned how annoying blog comment spam is. Unfortunately, comment spam is not going away any time soon because there will always be people who promote websites by using shady shortcuts instead of actually doing the legit work to get better search rankings. I can’t count the number of spam posts I’ve gotten over time that say “nice job check out my site” or “keep up the good work and click my link”. Once the spammers have found your blog, they’ll hit it with endless garbage posts 24/7 unless you take steps to stop it.
One of the reasons why Wordpress is my blogging platform of choice is because it is extremely powerful and flexible and it has a lot of great built-in functionality. Even better, its functionality can be easily extended with countless plugins created by Wordpress aficionados. Fortunately, because blog comment spam is such a big problem, plenty of people have created plugins to address it – though some plugins are better than others.
A Better Option Than Captcha-Based Blog Comment Spam Plugins
I used to use Captcha-based comment spam plugins with a reasonable amount of success, but I was still getting a lot of garbage. Frustrated, I started digging around for a better solution and came across a plugin called Growmap Anti Spambot. I'm not affiliated in any way with the creator of Growmap, but I will heartily endorse it. If you have a Wordpress blog, install it today! It’s free and it kills comment spam like Raid kills stink bugs. The Captcha-based plugins eliminated a lot of blog comment spam, but Growmap kills all of it.
Happy blogging!
