There is an old saying that goes, "If you want to catch fish, you have to fish where the fish are." It's clear that the internet has evolved over the years. The users are getting more savvy and the programmers are responding. For instance, take a look at the title of this article, again. Yep, you didn't see it the first time, did you? I left the "to" out. We've figured out that our search phrases only need certain key words to return the results we want. Therefore, "easiest way make money online" saves me a word and returns the same results as "easiest way TO make money online.
Go With The FlowIf you want to make money online you have to be willing to go with the flow. Resistance in this case is not futile. It is suicide. The masses will not hold up and wait on you to change your mind about following. That was a mistake we made that cost us a lot in terms of learning curve, time, and yes, money. When the tide starts to move it's time to get out the surfboard. You cannot get to where the money is, if you don't let the tide carry you there. We were sure what we were doing would be the future and our specialized skills would make us money hand over fist.
Static Websites RuleWith the advent of the World Wide Web websites became all the rave. The best designed and cleanly laid out sites were much talked about. Web design was a profitable niche. I know, because I was a desktop publisher turned web designer. We developed any eye for layout and learned the html code and could do what few others could. We were smug and sometimes condescending. We made money at it and knew there was nothing you could do about it . . . if you wanted a website. We made money the old-fashioned way. But, there was something new on the horizon, and we were refusing to check it out.
Things Started to ChangeOne day, someone figured out that there was more money in website traffic, and they had already figured out a way to attract people. That led to people getting a better understanding of search engines, which lead to a practice of optimizing a website so search engines could find them. All of a sudden, the wonderful looking heavy graphic and image loaded websites were not as in demand as before. We started to understand that search engines searched on words and not pictures - that's when the fun started. People started creating their own blog sites without the fancy layouts. We saw less and less business. Little did we know that there was serious money in blogging.
BloggingSomebody, less talented than I, decided to build a website full of words and almost no pictures. I thought, how ugly, and who would want a site like that? Well, I was not going to catch that wave, as I thought it would not go anywhere. Boy was I wrong! The science has now become SEO or search engine optimization. We are doing long-tail keyword searches and actually writing quality content, almost daily. And, we're doing it all in our ugly blogs that are not so ugly anymore. Yes, I'm saying, "we". I missed the first waves because I was arrogant and stubborn. You can rest assured that I'm surfing now.
Blogging is not the easiest type of website to maintain, but it is the easiest way to make money online. You are able to keep your content fresh and relevant. You can write about anything you'd like and also be sure that the search engines like it, too. Because the sites are optimized for search engines and the content is relevant and of high quality, people see the sites on the front pages of the search results and visit your site -- often. A nicely monetized site with plenty of visitors translates into nice money. Bloggers are where the fish are. You wanna make money? Go blogging. Take it from a late bloomer; blogging is the way to go.
Thanks for sharing your story of websites and blogging.
