I don't know about you, but I have yet to meet a kid who doesn't like playing board games. It is always a good idea to have some two player games for kids on hand for a rainy day. Most kids games are two player which is beneficial if they only have one friend over, or one sibling to play with. As the parent, you also could also spend quality one-on-one time with your child over a board game. It is a great way to get to know them!
There are many classic two player games for kids that are always a hit. Growing up I remember loving to play Candy Land, hoping to get through to the end and not getting sent back to start! If you haven't played this game, its a simple board game with a candy theme that uses colored cards to show you where to move your player. You can start playing this with your child when they are just a preschooler.
As they grow up a bit and get into Kindergarten, there are some really fun games like Operation - which tests their coordination, Perfection - where they have to match many various shapes before the timer is up and the pieces pop up, and of course Trouble. Trouble is the game where you have to race your piece around the board and get back to your home base before your opponent. It's a great game though because you can never lose the dice as it stays in a magical plastic bubble that you press and pop to roll!
As they grow up and want something a little more challenging or with a little more strategy, you can introduce Connect 4 where they have to line up 4 chips in a row before their opponent. This can get challenging when their opponent starts to block their efforts! Of course they could always try Clue, Sorry, or the Game of Life! All wonderful classic two player games for kids.
If your looking for some newer two player games for kids, or if your kids are seven years or older, look into Apples to Apples Kids version. It is a hilarious game of comparisons designed for young readers and can help them build great cognitive skills. Another game they may enjoy is Pictureka! This game is a picture hunt! For example you may be given a theme and have to find 5 of a certain item in a picture. And you'll want to find them before anyone else! Easy to learn and lots of fun. Finally, you could look into playing Spinner - The Game of Wild Dominoes. It is dominoes with a twist of lots of wild "spinner" domino tiles to help keep the game going strong.
There are plenty of options for two player games for kids! The most difficult part will be choosing which one to play! So take your pick and start the fun and laughter that comes with playing board games. And if you're looking for board games for adults you can check out the Top 10 Board Games site for ideas.
