Intex Excursion or SeaHawk inflatable rafts are manufactured of quality layered PVC and have a reputation for being safe and robust. They are sold the world over and are made to stringent safety standards. Recreational inflatable rafting on the water – article 2
Being recreational boats they can be used as rowing boats or if you have a model that has the necessary fittings you can also mount a motor.
2) Quick Filling Electric Pumps
The rafts do come supplied with a quick action hand pump but if you prefer consider obtaining a well-known brand, low cost 6 volt electric quick filling electric pump that plugs into the vehicles cigarette socket.
3) Easy to Fit Motor Mount Kits
Many Intex models have a fitting attached that enables you to fit an Intex motor mount kit. You can then use a small electric trolling motor or gas out board to get around when tiring of paddling.
4) MK Electric Trolling Motor
Using a small Minn Kota electric trolling motor (30 – 40 pound thrust) with the blow up rafts is an ideal eco-friendly way to get about on the lake or slow moving river. The pollution free motors are very affordable but be aware that you will need to acquire most of the accessories I have listed below.
5) Out Board Gas Motor
It is also possible to use a 1.5 – 3.0 horse power gas out board motor to power the Intex Inflatable boats. The down side with these gas motors is that you must be extremely careful to avoid spilling any gas on the boat because it will damage the vinyl the boat is made of.
6) Deep Cycle Battery for Trolling Motors
If you decide to use an electric trolling motor to power your boat you will need to get a marine deep cycle battery. These can be obtained from your favorite department or marine/auto store that sells batteries.
7) Battery Charger/Maintainer
For longevity it is extremely important to keep a battery fully charged and a good quality small commercial battery charger/maintainer is perfect for this job. Store the battery in a garage or store room where it can be easily accessed and there is plenty of ventilation.
8) Power Center – Minn Kota
Many small rigid or inflatable boats/rafts generally do not have built in battery storage boxes. For easy storage and management of your battery use a power center. The more expensive types have a circuit breaker included which is an absolute necessity for all electric trolling motors.
9) 60 Amp Circuit Breaker
It is necessary that electric trolling motors have an in line circuit breaker installed. They will help prevent you motor from burning out if wrongly connected to the battery or a fire breaking out due to a short circuit.
10) Life Jackets
In many places it is illegal to go boating without an approved life jacket per person on board. They do not have to be the most expensive and there are many types to choose from.
11) Boat Registration Fees and Fishing Licenses
In many places by law it is your responsibility as the boat’s owner to make yourself acquainted with the relevant authorities boating registration requirements. A small fee is usually charged.
Also if you want to fish then in many waterways you will require a fishing license. Be prepared to pay a large fine if caught by the authority’s inspectors fishing without one.
Make sure you have the right safety equipment on board so you can deal with any reasonable eventuality on the water. Now go and have fun with family and friends on your inflatable raft and enjoy summer to its maximum.
Stay safe on the water.
