Boxing Gloves For Men

So you are either a veteran in the sport, just joined a gym recently or looking to get into boxing and are looking for information on boxing gloves for men and where you might find the best boxing gloves available. well here i am going to tell you all about the best gloves and what are the best brands to go for to protect your hands from taking an injury, its all about having plenty of cushion and a well stitched glove.

What Size Boxing Gloves Should You Use?

Some people like to use one pair of boxing gloves for everything, training, sparring and amateur/professional bouts. I believe if you fight at amateur or professional level you should definitely have at least 2 pairs, training gloves and competition gloves. When picking the size and type of boxing gloves it should all depend on your weight and purpose for using them. here is a quick guideline,

120 pounds and down – (12oz – 14oz)

120 pounds to 150 pounds - (14oz – 16oz)

150 pounds to 180 pounds - (16oz – 20oz)

180 pounds and up - (18oz and up)

The Difference Between Type Of Gloves

Sparring gloves have extra padding to training gloves to prevent higher risk of head injuries, i believe if your sparring and you want to compete at amateur or professional level in a bout then i believe you should use the same gloves for sparring as you would a bout so you can get use to the weight of the gloves. Regardless off your weight or size no one really spars with under 16oz gloves unless your under 120 pounds, I personally think if your new in the game then i believe you should wear bigger gloves to get used to it and prevent yourself getting injured in your first training session so you don’t get disheartened.

Different Glove Types

There are 5 different glove types and they are as follows;

Training Gloves - these are all purpose gloves and can be used for any situation, the majority of them though i find are not thick enough for sparring.

Bag Gloves - They are small, lean and trim and are used to protect the knuckles when hitting the bag.

Sparring Gloves - I would say these are one pair of gloves everyone should have whos involved in boxing as they have extra cushioning to protect your hand and to protect your opponents head when in a sparring session.

Aerobic or Cardio Gloves - These have the least amount of padding and aren't great quality, i would recommend staying away from these.

Pro Or Fight Gloves - These are a lot smaller and are there to cause damage to your opponent so i would only recommend using these in real competition.

Personally i only believe in using 3 of these gloves - Training gloves, sparring gloves and pro/fight gloves when in competition because they are safer for you apart from the pro/fight gloves but they are for competition.

Getting the correct gloves is crucial in boxing as its the difference between getting an injury and staying safe in the sport, So always make sure you know your weight and purpose so you can establish what boxing gloves to get.
